Wonderful idea for lamb.. I did some things different and it came out amazing.. I used a crock pot instead and also added some fresh garden mint.. about 4 leaves worth. The mint ended up being a very mild flavor that complemented the lamb so well. Also i cooked the dish for about 6 hours instead of three making the lamb super tender. Thumbs up

This has become a family favorite and a Christmas tradition! I add a bit more pepper and spice and let it cook low and slow until almost time to eat. Then, if necessary, I use a thickener. A flour roux, cornstarch or some such thing. Being a stew, it lends itself well to variations and as was mentioned earlier, there is never enough leftovers!

Larry,
I'd like to have the old recipe that your family liked. Would it be too much trouble to post it in this comment section or is that appropriate here.

This was easy, and certainly worth the wait! The flavor was so very savory and wonderful! A definite must for a hearty comfort food night, and the leftovers were just as fantastic!

Excellent stew for a cold night or weekend. The important thing is to just let it boil down to desired thickness. My family likes it a little soupier, but leave it until it suits you. And, of course, it's always better the second day. The flavors are great.

The meal was very tasty and filling but it was too much broth in the recipe. I could have let it cook longer to cook it down but I'm sure that I could have just ommitted 1 cup of water and had a slightly better stew.
PS. It's even better the second day.

Awesome recipe! We put 2 green apples in to the mix. One while stewing in the oven and the other with the rest of the veggies. We did end up putting some corn starch in to thicken it up. But that's the consistency we wanted. I also added heavy cream at the end before the red wine vinegar(cabernet and topped it with fresh dill and lemon zest.
