I made a batch of cookies halving this recipe (it made 10 cookies as a test to see how they tasted. I made these by hand (chopping nuts and fruit since I don't have food processor and they were still very easy and quick to make. Next time though I am going to try putting the dough in the fridge for a little while before putting the filling in (because the dough was a little soft. I used whole wheat pastry flour instead of all purpose (next time I might use 1/2 and 1/2 because the whole wheat seemed a little on the dry side. For the filling, I used apricot preserves, chopped dried apricots, and chopped walnuts. Even with the modifications I made, I really enjoyed the flavor and versatility of these cookies. I'll definitely be making these again for the holiday.s

I have been looking for a middle eastern date cookie recipe and could not wait to try this one.It was really delicious and my husband loved it.I made a few changes to the filling-I used regular store bought dates, the type you get in a small tub and I added some extra orange rind and almonds and omitted the ginger.my husband does not like too much sugar on the outside of his cookies so I did not add any.I needed a little more liquid for the filling, next time I think I will add orange juice instead of water.
Great recipe and defenitely a keeper!!

I was surprised to find that the foodnetwork had a recipe for this type of middle eastern cookie. I think it was really easy to make using the food processor. I also had more filling left over. I used the apricot filling and it was a big hit in my house.

These cookies were just wonderful, and not difficult.
I had enough filling to make an extra batch of dough. The fact that they were not to sweet, just right, sprinkled with the powdered sugar. I will keep this receipe around for sure.

This is different cookie from any I normally make, but my daughter and I decided we would make all the "12 Days of Cookies" this year because it would be fun, so I did it! It was time consuming, but relatively easy with the food processor. The cookie is delicate and melt in your mouth, like shortbread, and the filling is chewy and wonderful - just sweet enough with the powdered sugar coating. I would definitely make this again. It isn't a "kid" cookie - more adult fare I think.
