Ingredients

  • Ice cubes
  • 3 ounces tequila
  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon orange liqueur
  • 1 tablespoon Lime-salt-sugar, recipe follows

Directions

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, and Simple Syrup. Cover and shake until mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds. (In general, the drink is ready by the time the shaker mists up.) Place Lime-salt-sugar on a plate. Press the rim of a chilled rocks or wine glass into the mixture to rim the edge. Strain margarita into the glass.

    Yummy

I really love this recipe, though I leave out the triple sec half the time. I almost like it better without. I do agree... that you should use a decent quality tequila with this though. Like Steve said, Patron and the like really don't need to be mixed at all, but this recipe does much better with Horintos or El Jimador than it does with something like Jose Cuervo. Also, I definitely prefer it with a silver tequila, both for flavor and looks. I also tried this with both fresh limes and bottles lime juice, and while the bottled lime was ok in a pinch, I definitely preferred the fresh limes.Read more

Made these for a littile get together and these were a big hit. I agree with the others, I would never buy the mix again! ... Loved the Cointreau. Do not leave out the salt/sugar/lime glass rimmer - very good!Read more

    Very Tasty, but....

This is great if you watched the show, but the recipe here does not say when to include the Triple Sec, (orange liquor). ... Just put it in the shaker or you can float it in & stir. Also, forget the sugar on the rim, that is NOT a REAL Margarita! The salt is the intended flavor mix with the lime & tequila, & serve on the rocks, not blended. Also, while I enloy a good quality tequilia with this, it is NOT that important, as it will still taste great with a economical tequila. Your mixing things here, so I prefer to save my high $ stuff for sipping or shots. Here I mean Don Juilo, Patron, or the other wonderful aged blue aguave products. You shouldn't waste those in a margarita, sipping only there!Read more
