This is a fantastic margarita recipe that rivals the best I have ever had when dining out. The key, however, is that I used Cointreau (pronounced KWAN' tro which is a particular brand of organge flavored liqeur. It's a key ingredient to any authentic margarita, so don't skimp here. Also, I bought one of those inexpensive wood handle juicers and juiced 25 limes for real lime juice. It didn't take too much time and it was worth it. I wouldn't use bottled unless you get pure lime juice with no additives or preservatives. Finally, the salt/sugar/lime on the glass rim is a must, too, as it was a nice contract to the sweet/tart/citrus taste of the margarita itself. A WOW recipe, keeper for sure.

This is simply the most authentic margarita I have ever had.
If you want to change it up a bit, try adding a small amount of grapefruit or orange juice with the lime juice.

The better the tequila, the better this margarita. We liked the salt-sugar lime rimmed glasses, but will only rim half the glass next time.

We've had this on two different nights this week after finding the recipe, and are really loving it! So far I've only used bottled lime juice (from the mexican foods isle, really good stuff but plan to buy a good press so I can squeeze my own limes, which will probably make them even better! The salt-sugar-lime glass rimmer is a must have, whoever thought of that deserves a medal. :-

I really love this recipe, though I leave out the triple sec half the time. I almost like it better without. I do agree that you should use a decent quality tequila with this though. Like Steve said, Patron and the like really don't need to be mixed at all, but this recipe does much better with Horintos or El Jimador than it does with something like Jose Cuervo. Also, I definitely prefer it with a silver tequila, both for flavor and looks.
I also tried this with both fresh limes and bottles lime juice, and while the bottled lime was ok in a pinch, I definitely preferred the fresh limes.

Made these for a littile get together and these were a big hit. I agree with the others, I would never buy the mix again! Loved the Cointreau. Do not leave out the salt/sugar/lime glass rimmer - very good!
