I made these and spiked the fruit topping with Grand Marnier. The fruit was really good, but the end result was average. Nothing to rave about.
Very sticky and hard t store as well.

It was the Christmas season and I surprised everybody with this delicious treats. Instead of adding dates and cherries, I used candied pineapple and and dried cranberries, it was awesome!

These cookies are so easy and so good. The fruit is so much better than the typical Holiday cookie with candied fruits. Had a hard time finding the candied orange peel, could easily be skipped. I just added some extra apricots. This will be a cookie I make every year.

I save 5 star ratings for only the best of the best. Although I wouldn't put this in that category, they were still quite good. This recipe begs for variation in that you can use any kind of fruit. I used dried pineapple instead of the orange, and I went easy on the raisins, adding more cherries & cran-raisins instead.

My crust was nicely browned and done in 20 minutes. My oven is calibrated correctly and isn't too hot, so I think the recipe has too long of time listed for this step.

There is ample time to cut up the fruit while the crust is cooling. I did add about 1/2 cup extra fruit, and it was adequate for our tastes.

The one thing I wonder about is whether these can be frozen. I will try a few and see how they turn out. Then I'll report back.

After reading the reviews I doubled my fruit portion and added almond extract to the cookie dough. These came out great! Mailed them to my grandmother in FL who loves dried fruit and nuts, and got rave reviews all the women in her development were asking for the recipe.

The finished cookie bars taste ok, and look very pretty. However, the recipe needs to be adjusted. First, I suggest you start by getting all your fruit and nuts ready to go. You don't want to stop in the middle of the recipe and do this. Second, you will probably need more fruit than what is called for. I had to add an extra cup to get even coverage on my cookie base. Third, the first baking time for the cookie part is way too long. Mine was getting dark golden brown halfway through the stated time. Fourth, when you spread your fruit, reserve as much of the orange glaze as you can in the pan, so that you can drizzle it evenly over the pan after the fruit is spread. Otherwise it ends up in a puddle in the middle of your pan and the edges get too dry.

As I said, these taste ok, but it's just sugar cookie and dried fruit, and they just didn't zing for me. Next time I might try some cinnamon or nutmeg or something.
