I've made a lot of baklava before and I was intrigued by the addition of figs and a little chocolate. I loved adding cardamom. I did put 1/2 tsp. maldon salt in the filling, because I always like a little salt with sweet. However, this recipe is written WRONG! My 1 pound box of phyllo had 20 sheets, not 48 as the recipe indicated. I layed down 12 sheets and realized there was no way I was going to be able to repeat 2 more times, so I put half, not 1/3 of the filling, a few more sheets of phyllo and the other half, then topped with the remaining 4-5 sheets. Not the many layered baklava I was hoping for. Should the recipe have called for 2 pounds of phyllo? or about 7 sheets repeated for the layers? I was very generous with the butter and had a ton left over, so I'm thinking 2 pounds of phyllo. I'm taking this baklava to a cookie exchange, and I'll have to add a disclaimer to the shared recipe. :(
