The ONLY change one needs to make is stirring in half a cup of *cooked* basmanti rice at the end. (Perhaps leftover from Indian takeout? This makes the recipe exactly like the soup served at Indian restaurants, and it gives the soup a bit more substance.

I just followed this recipe last week and certainly enjoyed it.
This recipe inspired me to create my own easy to make version of this recipe. I'm calling it Indian vegetable soup. These two recipes are very similar, but mine is faster, easier and less expensive to make. I'm sure you will enjoy!

you can read about it here: http://www.shoppcafe.com/2009/12/how-to-make-indian-vegetable-soup.html

This has been the best Mulligatawny soup that I have made...and that I found comes close to going out to the Resturants.
I can eat this soup everyday...
You do have to make sure that the Lentals are cooked and that you use unsweetend Coconut Milk.....I also add a whole Jalapeno, I like my soup with a little kick.

Delicious and easy to make! Even better than at restaurants near my house! Will definitely make again!

I put in 2 jalepenos instead of half of one, used ground ginger instead of fresh, 2 T curry instead of all the other spices and had leftover roast pork loin cubed from the other night. The soup was wonderful by itself. The coconut milk and lemon juice added way too much sweetness for the guys at my house. It really turned them off. My son was nice about his dislike but he didn't finish the bowl.

Suggestion - skip the coconut and lemon juice and serve with the cilantra on top with a nice crusty french bread.

This recipe seemed a little tarter than expected with the lemon and cilantro.

I've been trying to reproduce one of my favorite restaurants interpretation of this soup. This version is definitely the best I've found. I'd suggest using 2 jalepenos, 1/4 cup less of coconut milk and a little more coriander.

    A few suggestions:

Add some cut-up chicken, almost a meal by itself.

Use Moog Dahl lentils, they're smaller and you won't need to puree them.
