Ingredients

  • 2 ripe, firm red plums, such as Santa Rosa or Elephant Heart
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 limes, diced and pitted
  • 1 cup cachaca

Directions

Halve and pit plums. Whisk the sugars and water together in a small saucepan. Add the plums and simmer over medium heat, until tender but not mushy, about 10 minutes. Cool plums in the liquid.

Slice half a plum for garnish and set aside.

Put the diced limes and remaining plums in a large open pitcher. Crush thoroughly with a muddler or a potato masher (it works great). Add cachaca and the plum cooking liquid and fill with ice cubes. Pour into chilled rocks glasses, allowing some ice and fruit to fall into the glasses as well. Garnish each drink with a slice of poached plum.

    Best drink of the summer!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
Former mojito drinker after I found this. For 1 drink - I use 1/4 cup of the mixture, less than 1/2 lime, cut in 1/8's and... squeezed in - 2 shots cachaca, 3 shots club soda. All over ice, of course. Enjoy!!Read more

    ????

Why would anyone write such a stupid post and give this drink 1 star b/c they dont know what cachaca is? It certainly looks... fantastic. As for the 2nd post. I dont see throngs of Mexican's waging war on bartenders across America for throwing a mango in a margarita!Read more

To Counter the Dumb*ss Reviews Below

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I'm sorry, I just had to write something to counter was is happening below. First, if you don't know what a liquor is,... google it. Cachaca is very widely available. Second, this drink is not claiming to be the authentic drink of Brazil, but rather a riff on it. Now, for all I know, this drink could be very unpleasant, however, I will try it before I jump online and give it 1 star. I will be back!!Read more

    NOT A AUTHENTIC BRAZILIAN DRINK

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
FOR THE PREVIOUS COMMENT , CACHACA IS THE NATIONAL BRAZILIAN SPIRIT MADE FROM SUGAR CANE, AND MAKES OUR NATIONAL DRINK CALLED... CAIPIRINHA (IS DELICIOUS) BUT WE ONLY USE CACHACA , LIME, SUGAR AND ICE, NOTHING ELSE AT ALL. YOU MAY FIND IT ONLINE, IN BRAZIL A BOTTLE IS RATHER CHEAP BUT HERE YOU'LL PAY AROUND 10 BUCKS.Read more

I'm used to be a big drinker but have never heard of, nor knew where to buy of make "cachaca". That's a non-starter.
