Ingredients

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup prepared or homemade mayonnaise
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons minced flat-leaf parsley leaves
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh chives
  • 1 scallion, trimmed and thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Mash the garlic and salt to a paste with the side of a chef's knife. In a medium bowl, whisk together the garlic, mayonnaise, 1/4 cup buttermilk, parsley, chives, scallion, vinegar and pepper to taste. If the sauce is very thick, thin the dressing with a couple tablespoons more of the buttermilk. Use immediately or store covered, in the refrigerator, for up to 3 days.

I've been making this for a couple years now. Ranch Dressing is how I taught myself to eat veggies years ago. Always thought the HV bottled was great. Discovered the packaged, better. Then... as I got older and started watching FN, found this. I can't even eat anything out of a bottle/pkg now. This is SO good. And so easy! It makes a great sandwich spread, a great dipper for both raw or cooked veggies. Asparagus, fries or tots, chicken wings too! I use whole milk as I don't normally have buttermilk on hand. I grow chives in a small pot. In the months I don't have them, just add more green onions. REALLY worth your effort.

I had leftover buttermilk and didn't want it to go waste. I had green onions on hand and used instead of scallions, dried parsley and just used a splash of cider vinegar because I didn't have white wine vinegar. This dressing was absolutely delicious! I took a salad for lunch everyday and thoroughly enjoyed it. My brother, who likes ranch on all foods, thought it great as well. I'll never buy ranch or even the package kind to mix up. Thanks!

I made this using thick greek yogurt instead of mayo. Also did not have parsley, but used dried thyme, and it is very good.
