I thought these were yummy! Used 8 T of butter - YES room temp - and will double filling next time.

Guys, I don't understand what everyone's complaining about! LOL.
    1. ROOM TEMP BUTTER! (You're not topping an apple pie here, it's not a crumble, it's a cookie
    2. The cookie is meant to by a bit dense to handle the moisture from the filling, in case you don't eat them all in one sitting. The egg you added ruined that.
    3. Add 2 Tablespoons of butter more, and beat for longer than 10 seconds, and you have the dough (not batter that you're meant to have.

    Hope this helps kids.

So, I read all the reviews prior and changed the recipe to include an egg, 2tbs extra butter, and a dash of sugar for the dough. Well, it worked. The consistency was right, but the recipe says to bake for 8-10 minutes. Mine burned after 6min 30sec! The few that were cut big and didn't burn, I made into the sandwich cookies. Meh...They were ok. This recipe isn't worth trying. I'd go find a different red velvet recipe.

I'm only giving this recipe two stars because had I not read all the comments before hand and modified it, it would have failed. Plus the cookies were just OK, but I did add blue sprinkles to the edges to make them festive for the 4th of July.

I had the same dough problem.. but I just kept adding bits of water until it came together. They had such a strong chocolatey taste that the water didn't dull the flavor at all. delicious!

Very disappointing how crumbly the dough was, just like everyone said! Wish I would have read the reviews first. I ended up adding 4 tbsps of cocoa powder, 1/2 cup flour and an egg to get it to stick together. Not worth the effort!

I also had trouble with the dough. It was grainy. Add two more tablespoons of butter and your dough will be more pliable. Good cookie recipe, this is a keeper.

I am so glad to hear that everybody else had a hard time with this dough, I tried 2 times and had to throw away the dough both times! It has to be missing some wet ingredient somwhere. I was however, very succesful with the Red Velvet Cake Roll!!! ohhhh man, give it a try...it is worth it!

I just tried to make these cookies as a Valentine's Day surprise and had to throw away the dough. It had the consistency of dry sand and there was no way to knead it. Seems as though it was missing an ingredient, like eggs or some other binding ingredient. How can 1/4 tsp of vanilla and 1 tsp of food coloring be enough liquid for the dry ingredients?? I am not a novice baker so it's not me. I am so disappointed! I wish I had read the reviews BEFORE I wasted my time and money on the ingredients. Boo to Food Network.
