This is a quick and easy way to make refried beans without sacrificing the taste. My family enjoyed these as an accompaniment to our chicken taco supper.

I made this last night and my wife and I really enjoyed it. I did think the garlic was a little strong (I also love garlic but then the closest I've come to refried beans is Taco Bell and cans. I don't think I will change it the next time I make it.

Easy and delicious. With a simple change I was able to prepare this for my 10 year old vegetarian son. He loved it as did my other kids!

A hit for sure. The onions gave flavor and texture. I garnished with sour cream, cilantro and grated cheddar. yum. a keeper!

I wanted to love this as I am looking for an easy refried beans recipe (meaning starting from the can, with an authentic taste. For some reason, it just didn't work...too salty??? Too garlicky??? (And I LOVE garlic...not sure, but even my daughter who is a bean fanatic turned up her nose at this dish.

After having some very unsatisfactory samples of canned organic refried beans, I decided the only way to get good (spicy! organic beans was to make them from scratch. I only altered this recipe slightly... I boiled the pintos instead of using canned (just because I had the time to do so... why not?, I used vegetable broth instead of chicken, and I added a hot pepper to the oil with the onion. I will definitely be making this again, although I think I will use water instead of vegetable broth because it was a bit too strong of a flavor for my taste - I think it is the celery in the broth, or something. I didn't use chicken because I am a vegetarian. This recipe comes together very quickly and the beans have a nice consistency. Very good!
