I always make this for parties and it never lets me down. Perfect mix of flavors. People are always requesting it. *NOTE: This usually takes me much longer than the stated time, 15 min, to prepare; it usually takes me about 45

I found this recipe when I was searching for a healthier 7 layer dip for a Mexican themed dinner party. This is an EXCELLENT recipe. I had never considered making individual servings. Each of my guests really enjoyed the own little bowl, and enjoyed the recipe even more. I have to say this recipe is much lighter and fresher than other recipes. My husband now insists that I make this a go to recipe. I'm not sure that will happen, but I have made it a few times since I first discovered it and I love how it always comes through for me.

I think I would layer it in individual dishes in the future, everyone is germ conscious now days. I didn't know rinsing canned beans decreased the salt, I should have read the whole recipe first! Luckily I got away with it because I only added 1 tsp salt instead of 2 tsp!

I rated it a 4 instead of a 5 because the amount of work I had to put in to making this dish. It took me almost 1 1/2 hours... But in the end it came out really good. EXCEPT the avocado section... Please make sure to wait until the avocados are rippened before trying to cut them up... It was a nightmare! It was so bitter and gritty....I tried mashing it with the chili pepper and that wasn't working...so I put it in the food processor and it turned into grits. It was horrible so I left that section out of it. So instead of a 6 layer dip...it was a 5 layer dip. The bean mixture and yogurt mixture was delicious...with all of it combined it was a very successful appetizer at our Super Bowl party. Everyone thought it was very refreshing and light....

OK, for those of you that keep posting bad "ratings" because you think that there is WAY too much salt in the CANNED beans. Did you NOT read that you are to DRAIN and RINSE the canned beans?? I rinse mine until they are no longer "foamy" and they run clear of any color! Believe me, I am on an almost NO salt diet, because I have Meneire's Syndrome! If I have too much salt.....I am ONE DIZZY, SICK dame! This recipe is wonderful. I made it to MY specifications......BUT, used this recipe as a base! No one noticed the salt that was omitted......OR the calories!
I don't review a recipe poorly because I HAVE a certain medical issue.....I will try the recipe, as written, but I KNOW my limits, so I adjust!!
Love it, will make it many more times!! Thanks!

This recipe almost had me fooled about being healthier due to the homemade refried beans. Excuse me, canned beans are canned beans and full of sodium. It is very very simple to cook some dried pinto beans and they taste 100 times better and can be cooked with NO SODIUM!!!
