I like this recipe very much except for the lack of salt. Next time, I will use regular broth. I found myself adding a lot of salt. And make sure you use the white hoarseradish. The red beets add a sweetness that does not taste good with this soup at all.

Very tasty! Used organic ingredients and it had tons of flavor! The beef just fell apart. Only wish there was more color in recipe...but will make again.

Loved the fact that it was easy to put together. I agree the flavor was kind of lacking until you added the horseradish which really gave it that extra punch. I would make this again.

My family and I loved this recipe. It was so easy and delicious. The addition of the barley made a nice change from the usual potatoes. It's an excellent slow cooker recipe, and I look forward to making it very often this winter.

Disappointed. The photo made me want comfort food, but this recipe was bland poor peasant food. Seriously. No flavor and the cut of meat, used to be inexpensive, it wasn't , even at Safeway. It just isn't worth EVER making again. Try some short ribs or something with FLAVOR?
