An ABSOLUTE HIT!!! The entire family loved it. For the most part we followed the recipe except we didnt have ginger in the house or star anise so we substituted a little of some Indian and Moroccan rubs we had- just a pinch of each. It definitely is a refined taste- a little on the sweet side and really not too salty as some others complained about , but we used all low sodium products. The fam is already asking for seconds and when I am going to make it again!!! THANK YOU!!!

I wish I could give this negative stars. I am confounded by all the positive reviews. This tasted, well, BLAH. It was so BLAH, in fact, that it bordered on disgusting. I followed the recipe to a tee, and I have to say it was probably the worst thing i've ever made. Even adding some hot sauce and soy sauce couldn't make this edible. Who'd a thunk such simple, yet yummy, ingredients, when combined, could become so tragically bland?

Salty. But still good and was fun to make. House smelled awesome. I followed the directions as written. Would advise using low sodium soy sauce. I opted for the dry sherry. Fun to use star of anise! Not a recipe that I will repeat but my husband and I enjoyed.

This was SO good! I added a cup of water to the recipe to stretch it out and it seemed like it would be a little salty without it. The sake made it perfect and I added a few dashes of sesame oil at the the end. I agree that slicing up the pork and serving the soup over to top is the perfect way to serve with green onions and cilantro on top. Will make again for sure!

This was delicious. It's not a soup...more of a noodle bowl with some broth. We used low sodium soy sauce and I didn't use the star anise since I couldn't find any. My 2 and 4 year old even liked it (with the "green stuff" bok choy removed, of course. Can't wait to make it again.

This was horrible -- way too sweet even though I used less sugar than specified.

I've made this four times already and LOVE IT! The only thing I changed was the star anise (only 1 small piece because I felt like the flavor was too overpowering. It's so easy to put together and I don't have to stress about working hard on dinner all afternoon.

Great recipe that I'll definitely make again! I followed the recipe exactly, but had to substitute Chinese 5 Spice for the star anise - I also added 2 Hungarian peppers which seemed to add just the right amount of spiciness. I also followed the advice to remove the meat before adding the bok choy in stages, but put the meat back for the last 10 minutes to heat it up again. I also added a bit over 50% more of the broth, which worked out well. All in all, very easy and enjoyable. The flavors diminished a bit, though, when we had as leftovers 2 days later. Plenty of food & broth for 6 servings.
