Best split pea soup I have ever eaten! Don't substitute the smoked turkey leg if you can help it. I think it's what makes this soup especially tasty and separates if from the typical, but still delicious ham hock versions. It was easy to put together and the best part is that the crock pot did the rest of the work!

This soup was easy and great tasting. I omitted the peas and didn't feel it was necessary. Yogurt topper is a must! Delicious! (I didn't dilute as soup had enough liquid This is a keeper!

Not a fan of this recipe. It was too goopy and needed more broth and flavor. Would not reccomend.

By the time I realized I wanted to make this, I didn't have time for the slow cooker. I did everything in a big pot, put it on the stove on med/low, and let it go for 2-3 hours. The smoked turkey makes a big difference, it gave it such a great smoky, salty flavor. Big hit with my family, and very easy!

Great recipe! I used leftover hambones and extra ham chunks from Easter instead of smoked turkey legs.. It took me 10 hrs total because of the ham bones and chunks..I added the extra Italian parsley and peas..Peas I would definitely waive.. The soup was thick enough..Overall, the soup was wonderful..I had my doubts from the beginning because of the fresh herbs but it was worth it..

I added 1 tsp of cumin along with the other spices and I only used 1/2 tsp of dry thyme instead of the fresh springs. I was good.

I visit the site, but don't write a lot of reviews. But this one's worth the effort. Holy cow. The reviewer hairjunky nailed it: it's PACKED with flavor. And it's incredibly easy to make. It took me 15 minutes to prep it before I left for work one day. I came back to a slower cooker full of rich, flavorful soup. And I don't really even like soup, especially split pea soup.
The smoked turkey legs seem like a rare ingredient, but they're in most grocery stores in the packaged meat section near sausages and uncommon meats like duck, veal, etc. I'm never paid more than $5-6 for two legs (about 1.5 lb - what the recipe calls for.

I followed the directions exactly and even after 7 hours the peas were really hard. This was a disaster!

This was the best split pea soup I have ever made. It was easy to make and packed wiith flavor. I could not find smoked turkey at my grocery store, so I bought smoked ham hocks. I also added chicken stock and ham stock to the mix and the combination was awesome. I omitted the frozen peas because we don't like them. I will definitely make this one again. Our family loved it.

This soup is delicious! The hickory smoked turkey leg gives it a very nice flavor. I was afraid that I would never be able to find a hickory smoked turkey and was pleasantly surprised to come across them in the packaged sausage section at my supermarket. This soup is just perfect to come home to after work!
