Really delicious and moist- my husband LOVED it. It was good with both the vinegar sauce and BBQ although I preferred the BBQ. My blender wouldn't blend up all the peppercorns so my roast had little black balls all over it but it was still delicious and biting into one wasn't that bad. I also substituted allspice for cloves because I was out of cloves.

I also put baby carrots in the pan for the final 30 minutes of roasting time and poured some of the juices over them to keep them from drying out. They made a very flavorful side dish!

I served this for Christmas dinner. The only problem was that I didn't have a bigger piece of meat!! Everybody loved this. Just be careful not to salt the meat too generously before placing the rub on.

I ended up following another recipe that let the shoulder sit in the fridge overnight. This absorbed most of that excess oil.

I'm satisfied with the final product, but I wouldn't use this recipe again without making major modifications.

This is the first pork shoulder I've made. Texture and taste were excellent! I chose not to make the vinegar sauce, but added a good quality barbecue sauce after chopping the pork for use on sandwiches. Everyone in my house declared it a winner and are looking foward to a repeat performance.

I made 2 pork shoulders for our family Easter dinner and everyone loved them. I did add a few drops of liquid smoke to each of them also.
