I made this for my MOPS group (Mothers Of PreSchoolers, everyone loved it. I had to email out the recipe! I used chili powder instead of cayenne pepper, and added some roasted red bell pepper to the top along with the roasted tomatoes (which were delicious. This recipe takes some time, but it's easy and well worth the results.

I made this for Christmas Day Brunch, and everyone thought it was delicious! I used kale, which turned out wonderfully. Definitely will make this again for brunch on another day!

I thought this dish was wonderful! Definitely do not skip the roasted tomatoes...they make the dish. I did not prepare the night before. I prepared the egg/bread/arugula mixture while the tomatoes were roasting, topped the strata as soon as they were done, and popped it right into the oven. I did not think it was bland at all, nor was there too much bread. I did not do the bread by weight, however...I used the cup measurement. Maybe that was the difference. Next time I will probably throw in some smoked sausage just to change it up a little.

Family review: husband and I love it just the way it is (but don't omit the roasted tomatoes. I knew other family members would expect more "stuff" in a one-dish breakfast, so I set up a "stratta bar" and had crumbled spicy sausage, bacon bits, extra cheese, tomatoes, etc. That satisfied a house full of guests, who could make their breakfast more or less healthy. Ditto on prior post regarding use of 2% milk and less bread -- worked out well. Definitely worth keeping in your recipe box.

This is actually a very good recipe, but roasting the tomatoes is key to a great flavor. (I subbed Campari tomatoes. Strata is supposed to be a bit bland, so it would be a mistake to add more spices. My whole family loves this dish. The flavors blend well together. I decreased the fat by using 2% milk, less Fontina (8 oz, olive oil (1 Tbsp. and bread back to 3/4 lb. I used kale to try something new. I didn't have time to let it sit overnight, and it turned out fine. I did a recipe analysis, and if you consider this to be 8 servings, then 1 serving is around 475 calories-- not bad for a dish that can stand by itself as a light meal. It also is not that expensive to make. I found all the ingredients at Wal-Mart for just under $20 if you have to buy everything (not including spices and olive oil. That's just $2.50 a person to feed 8 or 2 meals for a family of 4.

Not as good as i expected with all the great ingredients. Everyone thought there was too much bread and not enough of the vegetables and I even put half the bread the recipe suggested. Very expensive and you'd never know from eating it you'd have thought it was a cheap throw together.

I really liked this recipe! I almost didn't make it after reading a bad review, but I'm glad I did. It wasn't bland at all. I think the key is to add enough cayenne, tomatoes and spinach and not too much bread. I used spinach. I didn't have Fontina so I used a mix of Mozzarella and grated Swiss and it turned out great. Note that it is very, very filling! The recipe says it's for 6 people, but I would say it's for 6 football players!

Hard for me to give this recipe even 1 star. I thought it was almost tasteless and quite frankly was expensive to make. I made two trays for a party and barely one of them was touched. I ended up throwing all of it away. I am so embarrassed to have served this to my guests without having tasted it first...YUK!
