absolutely delicious. I will definitely make this again. I love it when simple ingredients end up coming together well. I prefer sour cream to yogurt and I used about 1 tsp of sugar in cooking.

This recipe is super delicious and way easy. I didn't make any changes and it was awesome. It is surprisingly rich. Wow.

This was a real winner!!
A great recipe, just needed a little doctoring. If you make one change, I highly recommend making it with homemade chicken stock instead of water. Gives it a real richness.
I up'd the turmeric a bit and added some curry spices, as well.
I made this with a mixture of red and green lentils. FYI, the red lentils cook much faster and turn into a more mushy soup while the green lentils stay more firm.

Quick, easy, and delicious. I added a bit of chicken bouillon and onions as well. Topped with yogurt (no extra water added, red pepper flakes, and a dash of garam masala powder. Will certainly make this a few times a month!

Loved it. Will be making many times over. Made it with slightly more Indian flair by keeping all ingredients but adding 1/2 diced onion, 1/2 vegetable boullion cube & 1/4 tsp. curry powder. Enough for 4 large bowls. Loved that it is packed with protein (lentils & yogurt and vegetables and is hearty.
Also, red lentils are available at Trader Joe's for all those interested. I found them there along with the garlic naan!

Great soup! but since I could not find the red lentils I used the brown lentils instead also I added 1 chicken bouillon which made it more interesting and flavorful and lots of cilantro towards the last 5 min of cooking and instead of yogurt I used a sour cream I wanted to add a little spanish mediterranean twist to it!

This is the best home made soup recipe ever! I made it again tonight but I used 2 Serrano Chile peppers and one Habanero Chile pepper cause I prefer it really spicy. I added 2 tsps of plain non fat Greek Yogurt to it without water or extra cilantro. It was absolutely PERFECT! I recommend this variation to the ones that love the hot/spicy taste in food.

I couldn't find any red lentils either. Used a jalapeno instead of the serrano, won't make that mistake again (wasn't spicy at all. My husband did think the addition of ham or sausage would have been nice but really not necessary. It was delicious as is.
I pureed the soup and it was plenty thick. Ended up adding the suggested water. The Greek yogurt adds a nice flavor.

I had this for dinner tonight, and I have to admit that for a low calorie meal it was tasty. We really enjoyed it. However, I felt that there was definitely room for additional flavors. Perhaps I would add ham or maybe crumbled bacon next time. Also, it didn't look as thick as it did in the picture, so I took my immersion blender and pureed it a bit. Its definitely a good base soup with endless possibilities for adding flavors if you so desire. If you want to keep it low calorie, it is a pretty decent soup as is. I just happen to like a lot of flavor.
