This recipe was terrible the first time I tried it and it was good the second time. The cooking instructions are not very clear though. It should be cooked on medium heat not medium high heat up until you add the ketchup and the tomato paste. After that you should cook on low heat. If you try to cook ketchup on high heat it will be charred and really gross. After I realized this and cooked it again it was much better

This recipe had a mixed review in my home. My husband (who doesn't prefer meatless meals didn't make it past one bite while I ate two!
I really liked it, but I think they could have gotten a better flavor substituting apple cider vinegar for the beer.

Disgusting. This recipe is seriously flawed. 1 3/4 cups of beer??? There are only 12 ounces (1 1/2 cups in a regular bottle or can of beer!!! It would have been soup had I put in the whole bottle. The taste was horrible, nasty, etc......

This recipe was okay. A good substitute if you are trying to do a meat-free dish. Be careful not too over process the mushrooms--mine came out a bit mushy rather than a ground meat consistency. Also, cut down the chipotle pepper if you don't like spicy.

I love the flavor of sloppy joes. I even had a couple at Sloppy Joe's in Key West. However, I am not too keen on hamburger meat or any ground meat. I liked this a lot. Sloppy joe flavor but vegetarian. Thanks!

Gross. Ground chicken would have been far more delicious for only a few more calories. The stems of the mushrooms are really woody, and the walnuts weren't very good either.

Really good! I am making it again. I agree that you could use a little less walnuts if you wish and no beer and it would still be delicious.

It was very tasty. I could have done with less walnuts. Will make again but will tweak to ny liking.

I was really looking forward to trying this recipe but sadly it did not turn out very good. I only used 1 cup of beer (recipe calls for 1 3/4 cup of beer and the 1 cup was too much! Also, the beer added a weird flavor..I used a white winter ale which may have been my down fall. I also found out I'm not a big fan of chipotle pepper. The other ingredients are great and I think they would have worked really well as a replacement for ground beef in a more traditional sloppy joe recipe.
