The hard candy ruined the taste of the cookie.

I made these cookies today with my sons and they were so easy and fun to make! I followed the directions exactly and they came out perfect after 12 minutes. You have to make sure to chill the cut out cookies on the cookie sheet for 30 minutes before you bake them. I found the dough very easy to work with and not sticky at all. We will be making these every Christmas!

Nothing seemed to work with this recipe. I made some plain cookies with the excess dough first and learned that they burnt at ten minutes. When it came time to bake the stained glass cookies I used a shorter time. The dough was still too brown but acceptable but the lifesaver centers were close to black as were the bottom of the cookies.

This cookie dough is delicious; light, airy and not too sweet. And the cookies were beautiful to look at; they have a wow factor on the plate! I didn't care much for eating the candy portions of the cookies, but I'm not a big hard candy fan. I struggled with keeping the dough cool long enough to roll and cut before it got too warm to work with. I solved the problem when I realized it was 38 degrees outside. I moved everything outside on the deck and was able to easily work the dough! Also I didn't have much luck rolling the dough between parchment papers, i just used flour for my hands and the rolling pin. Last tip was I found I needed to use more candy per cookie than the 2/3 it called for. I filled them 3/4 or more to prevent holes. All in all a fun cookie to make, just takes some patience!
