it is not too much liquid..you have to let set over night in the fridge..all of it will absorb into the cake..

Love this recipe! Everyone is always asking for my "secret" recipe. It's so different - and so good cold!

I agree with most reviewers, way too much liquid for an 8" cake. I would double the cake next time. We all decided it didn't need the mango either (or the whipped cream, it's so sweet on its own I may try the Alton recipe everyone is talking about.

I make this about once a month and everyone loves it. Add or subtract the amount of liquid and alcohol to your preference. And PS:....it's suppose to be soggy!

We made this cake last night and were really disappointed. After watching Alton make his version, we were really excited to try this one. Unfortunately, as others have noted, the liquid is excessive. We let it set up overnight as Alton did with his recipe and it is still swimming this morning. My husband tried to pour some of the liquid out to save it, and he said the cake itself is good, but it is soggy and mushy from sitting like that all night. Too bad, we had really high hopes for this one...will be trying Alton's version next time!

We made this a while ago when it came out in the magazine. It was WONDERFUL!
I loved how it was drenched in the liquid and the whipped cream on top was refreshing!
Thanks for a great recipe!

Food Tv needs to double check their recipes before print! Unfortunately, I didn't realize there was too much liquid until it was too late. My pan overflowed and the liquid ran out onto the counter. In the end I used half the liquid and it tasted great.

Here's what I did to make this work for me. I double the batter recipe and used an 8x11 baking dish. However on the milks used to pour over the cake at the end, I only used 1/2 (except the rum....I kept that the same. This worked out perfectly. The cake was delicious. I would bake this again. It was not hard to do at all.

The cake was really easy to make and didn't take much time at all, but was not even worthy of eating. I was only able to pour 1/3 of the liquid over the top before the cake stopped absorbing it all. There was way too much, and I ended up throwing most of the liquid away...followed by the cake. Very disappointing.
