I made this with adding mushrooms, eggplant and parsnip veggies and a can of Vegetable Broth. Did not add Soy crumbles. Baked for over 30 mins before adding topping. Came out quite satisfying.

I just made this Vegetable Shepherd's pie for the first time, but modified it slightly. First off, I always use Morning Star farms soy crumbles as a substitute for ground beef. Instead of Worcestershire sauce, I subbed a grocery knock-off brand of Dale's seasoning which contains no fish (although I am Pescatarian. Also instead of adding potato water to the sauteed veggies, I added concentrated vegetable broth (Better than Boulion. I believe the latter is responsible for the full flavor. I haven't eaten turnips too often and I'm not sure yet if I like them or not, but overall this recipe is delicious. Next time I may sub diced mushroom instead of soy crumbles.

It tastes good and if you have something against the sauce don't eat it! I have never heard of a soy allergy epidemic. It was a hit in this house hold. Those who can, do. Those who can't, criticize.

Any recipe that includes Worcestershire sauce is NOT vegetarian. The delicious brown stuff contains fish, therefore is not truly vegetarian. However! You can find recipes for vegan Worcestershire sauce and substitute that.

When I first saw the headline for this recipe, I thought OK cool a Shepherd's Pie without the ground beef. Imagine my dismay when I found that you simply substituted "vege protein" and/or "crumbles" whatever they are... If you truly want a vege Shepherd's Pie recipe, don't be putting those artificial soy burgers in it. There are a lot of people who are allergic to soy products... I am disappointed.

This recipe was a bit of a surprise. I had some winter root veggies around and I did some substituting. I think as long as you keep the liquid to veggie ratio the same the recipe works with pretty much any root. It has a LOT of garlic so beware.

I loved this vegetables only shepherd pie. The worchestershire sauce gave it a nice flavor and made it feel like you were eating a meaty dish. Mary Bunker
