I wish there was a place in the "Recipe Box" to note any personal changes to the recipe. I doubled the recipe, used cranberries in place of raisins and pecans in place of walnuts (I'm allergic. I used mayo & sour cream, but next time might try the greek yogurt, used granny smith and fuji apples and added chicken. I really liked it.

I have never had a Waldorf so I have nothing to compare it to; however, I liked the end result. I love the texture in the salad and the lightness. But I wouldn't say it's my most favorite salad. I would make it again though.

I was not disappointed with the wonderful flavors. My husband practically ate the entire salad! This is a keeper!

My husband and I both enjoyed the salad, even though I think I went overboard on the lemon, and I burned the nuts...I also threw in some raspberries- it was delicious, and I'll make it as a simple side dish again!

I'm not sure what the original recipe looked like. Ours does not have any lettuce in it. It is a fruit salad. As I understand food history the salad was originally formulated at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC. I doubt they had any "low fat" items available then.
But it is a great Holiday Favorite at our house. Primarily a Christmas festival food but we do round it up for family get togethers during the rest of the year when apples are in season.
This rendition looks interesting but I don't think it will replace our standard version.

I made this salad today. I substituted pecans for walnuts because two of the people who will be at a 4th of July party tomorrow can't eat walnuts. I only had Vanilla Activa ff yogurt so I used that & it was terrific. I left out the parsley -
I just didnt want any green flecks in it & I used two kinds of apples, gala and a Granny Smith. This is one of the BEST tasting salads; I can't wait to try it out on friends tomorrow.

This was a great recipe. I do have to agree that I feel better about using real ingredients rather than low fat substitutes so I tried this with the amazing greek yogurt that I find at Whole Foods that has honey in it and then did not add the honey that the recipe calls for and I did not use any mayo. I also added some fresh grapes in addition to the raisins since they are just one of my favorite fruits. My husband loved it and he is hard to please!

I doubled the recipe for Thanksgiving and thought the dressing was a bit runny. I think I'd use more mayonnaise and honey and less yogurt and lemon juice next time. I like the suggestion of dried cranberries and also thought halved, red seedless grapes might be a nice alternative to golden raisins (my grocery store didn't carry golden raisins. And maybe a pinch of nutmeg. A good, healthy, foundational recipe to start with.
