I tried to make this with my 11 year old for a school project. The recipe is for such a small quantity that you would have to use a SUPER SMALL saucepan to cook the center in order to make the candy thermometer work in the recipe. It sounds like a good recipe but in practice it didn't work well in my kitchen. I thought it was looking more like a crack stage than a soft ball, but it's been a long time.....boy, was I right. By the time the candy thermometer (a new one reached the 230 mark and we added the last of the powdered sugar, it was hard as a rock! Beware, use a child-size sauce pan to make this recipe, or better yet, quadruple the quantity.
