DO NOT REMOVE THIS RECIPE (as suggested by another reviewer. We almost didn't make these cookies due to some of the negative reviews here. I joined the food network specifically to say these cookies were perfect!
I have never made cookies with cut-outs before as my mom and I made spritzer cookies growing up. My three year old enjoyed making and painting these delicious cookies for Santa. By the looks of the plate Christmas morning, Santa liked them too.

Absolutely terrible! Dough was crumbly. After working with the dough for about 15 minuted by adding additional butter and a little milk, it finally reached the consistency required to roll. Unfortunately when the first batch came out of the oven, they looked and tasted like biscuits! Would have been better with a little honey, or gravyand mashed potatoes... LOL. Ended up throwing out the dough and the first batch of cookies. PLEASE REMOVE THIS RECIPE, before someone else makes the same mistake that so many others have made! Or move it to the Thanksgiving section!

i think recipe is good. At the beginning in thought it wasn't going to make it but i stayed positive and it made through. the dough is crumbly but you just have to work with it and it will work for you. p.s.(if your using wax paper be careful and don't put to close to the light bulb if you understand lol :0

Too all of the folks that tried this recipe and complained the dough was to crumbly, adding the flour slowly is key, also I followed the recipe to the T but did add more flour during the rolling out process and they came out great, they tasted good and the texture was great for painting on them with icing and a paint brush.... They are great for a little family project... L♥ved it!

This is a great recipe for children to work with, not too short. Mine browned perfectly. My six year old grand daughter is working with them as we speak.

I'm glad I made these before reading the reviews. They turned out great! As I was mixing the flour into the dough, I noticed it was very dry and crumbly, so I added more butter until it was of the right consistency. All this recipe needs is more butter, I suggest about 1/2 cup or so more. They kept their shape and browned lightly on the bottom. They have a pleasant sweet flavor that isn't overpowering. Love this recipe!!

Not even worth the star I gave it wish I read the reviews had to throw the "dough" away because it just crumbled. Absolutely disappointing.

I was hopeful, because many people left positive reviews. However, they wouldn't brown. If I'd let them stay in any longer, they would have been hard. There must be a better recipe out there.

They taste eh, ok. I followed the directions completely, scared to death because I'm not a great baker...I usually burn them. I mixed up the dough and it was all crumbly like cornmeal. I ended up adding water to get the consistency right to make 'dough'. I refrigerated it to for about a 45 minutes. It was impossible to roll unless I cake it with flour. Luckily my daughter is only 2 and a half and she enjoyed being hands on & doesn't know the real process. We had to make a ball and mash each one by hand just to put the cookie cutter in so they are thicker than they should be. They taste OK. I think I should've used lemon instead of vanilla flavoring. They're kinda bland. But, at least I didn't burn them like usual.

This recipe was terrible! It was a waste of money and time! Dough was too stiff and dry! Had to throw dough away!
