Before trying this recipe I read the reviews and was a little skeptical, but I was pleasantly surprised. The dough was pretty dry and crumbly so I did as others suggested and slowly added some milk to get a good dough. Also for the icing, I did not add as much water as the recipe called for. I started with about 1 tsp to begin with and added more from there to get the desired consistency. Also, I added a little bit of almond extract to the icing to give it flavor. They turned out very good and they were easy to make. This one is a keeper for me.

The first time i made these cookies, i only used about one stick of butter, and they turned out great. (I didn't have any buttermilk but i used Emeril Lagasse's recipe and it worked well. When i made these the second time, they turned out very dry. Also, if you don't have one of those kitchenaid artisan mixers to cream the butter and sugar together, you might as well not make them. It broke my electric hand mixer when i made them the first time, so i just kneaded the dough the second time. (big mistake! turned out stiff and dry
Overall, these cookies are unpredictable. Sometimes they are moist and delicious, but sometimes they turn out more like dry biscuits!

This is a very delicious cookie (I added about a half cup more of sugar after reading a review stating it is bland. I also like the thickness of the cookie. However, I did have a hard time working with it. I gave the dough plenty of fridge time. When I was trying to roll it out, it was very crumbly.

I made these for the office staff of our school...and have been made fun of ever since. This recipe produces dry, bland, floury-tasting cookies with a thin, watery icing. Very disappointed!

dough was extremely crumbly. Way too much flour. Very difficult to roll out. Dough never browned (not enough sugar? so it was difficult to tell when cookie was fully baked. Cookies were very bland and tough.

the recipe was very easy to follow, but the dough didnt come together at all. So I just increased the amount of butter from 1 1/2 sticks to 2 1/2, and the turned out wonderfully.

I doubled this recipe, what a mistake! There would have been plenty without doubling. The cookies were moist and delicious.

After a terrible batch of a sugar cookie cutouts...a recipe not to be used again, I found this one and it was great!! The dough was easy to work with, if it seems dry add a little milk, it did not crumble, stick to the rolling pin or tear apart. The cookies turned out cripy on the outside and chewy in the middle. A difinite add to my recipe box.
