I've been making this recipe for years!! My whole family enjoys the taste ane the aroma that comes from the stew. When it says chopped green peppers, I've always assumed that it meant green chiles which gives it great flavor. I've also added ground cumin to the list of spices as well. SO GOOD!

I had enough ingredients around the house to make it and not even need to go to the store. I liked the flavor and so did my kids. I thought that it is as good as any stew I have eaten. Give it a try!

I love, love, love this soup, it is a cold weather favorite in my home, and I plan on making it tonight. The soup is super easy, you just toss in the ingredients and go. I do have a specific type of sherry that I use, I experimented each time I made the stew and found that I liked Tio Pepe the best of any I tried.

Also, the first time I made it, I thought that the flavor was good, but was missing a layer or two. What I ended up doing was slicing up a couple of limes, and squeezing a slice into each bowl, and putting in a couple of drops of hot sauce with it. I always leave it for the infividual to do, that way the level of tanginess and spiciness is up to them. My family and friends LOVE it! Like I said, I make this almost every time cold weather sneaks up and people in my family line up at the pot for it!

I added some extra paprika and a pinch of dried red chile flakes for some extra heat. This was wonderful.

I liked the cilantro but the stew came out a little watery for my tastes. I added shredded cheddar right into the bowl before serving. It thickened it up a little.

Brought back memories of my childhood when the family got together to create sunday dinners just like the one above. I even tried it with pork which was just as yummy. The recipe is easy and tasty.
