Excellent! First time I've. Made yams and my family loved them and best. Of all they were very easy to make. Thanks.

I've made this recipe for the last 2 years and everyone raves about it. So this year, I am making double so we can get some leftovers out of it. Don't cut the yams/sweet potatoes smaller than suggested or they break down even smaller when cooking as well as when you stir them.

For my personal taste, I do not put as much sugar and butter as indicated and I add a pinch or two pumpkin pie spice since it has cinnamon and nutmeg already in it. Enjoy!

I had never made yams before I tried this recipe. It was so easy and everybody went back for seconds. I will definitely be making this recipe again...and again :

People who didn't know they even like yams LOVE the following recipe.

First off, if you double this recipe, prepare to use a really big pot, otherwise cook time is double, if not longer. I also cut the pieces smaller, more like 1 to 1 and a half inch pieces.

The yams cook in the sugar and butter without water, as the yams themselves give off their own juices. I use half the butter this recipe calls for, just my personal taste.

Once the yams are nice and tender, use a hand mixer to blend all that sugary, juicy goodness with the yams.

No need to remove any of the liquid, it will all blend nicely.

Also, you may mix in about 7 to 8 ounces of sweetened condensed milk. This will give your yam mixture an ooey, gooey texture.

You may also add cinnamon and/or nutmeg to taste or whatever your little heart desires.

Spoon into as many casserole dishes as you need, cover with marshmallows and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes or until the marshmallows are golden brown and ENJOY!

note: If you make this ahead of time, put it in the microwave on low or defrost just to take the chill off and then add the marshmallows and pop it in the oven.

I love a simple recipe and this reminds me of my mom's candied yams.
