The best in Dallas and probably in Texas. If you have not been to the Mansion, you have missed a great hotel, bar and five star dining.

Four stars because a recipe is as good as its host.. and maybe its author.
On another note: Everyone, everywhere, if you haven't had The Mansion at Turtle Creek's tortilla soup, then you haven't had tortilla soup. Do yourself a favor, and visit Dallas, TX for the real deal. :... Also, some life advice: If you prefer chunky soup, then prepare chunky soup.. and shame on you for throwing out fine food.

Would have given this soup ZERO stars if possible. But I should have known this wasn't going to be a "home cooked" kind of soup. I mean, get real, one piece of chicken and it's supposed to serve four; and instead of putting the chicken in the soup it gets piled atop the soup [I guess that makes it prettier?]; and everything gets pureed [YUK]! I've tried lots of Mexican soups and liked all of them better than this concoction. It also seems to be lacking in Mexican flavorings - and I'm unsure whats missing.

I tried to rescue it to no avail and we threw out the entire pot of soup. What a waste of time and money!

Pureed with meat "artfully" arranged on top?? I should have known we'd not like this. With few exceptions [e.g., cold cucumber soup] we prefer hearty, chunky soups and eat most of them as one pot winter meals. However, we've had hearty, chunky mexican soups elsewhere that we loved - not this one.

Although I'm a pretty good home cook, this was my first time fixing a Mexicsn soup. I was surprised that tortillas can thicken a soup - we liked that. But 1 piece of chicken is to provide protien for four servings? No way.

So, I pureed half of the soup and left the other half in chunks. I used 3 pieces of chicken thighs/breasts and added them into the soup. I found the flavorings overly mild and added a bit more of the cumin, chili powder, garlic, etc.

We hated it! Fed the rinsed chicken pieces to the dog and threw out all else. Will try a different Mexican soup next time.

I am not a cook, nor do I enjoy cooking but I love tortilla soup. My husband is a great cook and I was trying to find some dishes that he couldn't take over. This fit the bill. I am not overwhelmed by the ingredients, I have most of them on hand constantly and the taste is exceptional. You can really impress with this dish.

This was easy and excellent! I would add a little jalapeno to add a little more spice next time, but this has a wonderful flavor. My husband raved about it as well. Will make again.

Can't afford going to the restaurant, but they do sell the soup at our local Central Market...this recipe is by far the best, and alot cheaper than the restaurant or buying their jar!!! Simply extraordinary.

I've made lots of tortilla soup recipes. This one is the best - hands down. I do use a whole chicken that I boil in water then use as my broth and add beans and corn. I also double all the ingredients except the broth. YUMM!We have this once a week!!!
