When I fiirst saw this recipe, I said "Aw c'mon, there's got to be more to it than that!" But it actually is very clean tasting without all the other stuff. I used a brioche hot dog bun. Dont know if it's like a New Eng style hot dog bun, but it was a gret substitute! I'll be making it again.

Dan has it right. I've had lobster rolls all over NE and Lobster Shack has it right ... even though they did leave out the fact that the roll should be grilled and spronkled with paparika (as Dan pointed out. Possibly, the great view of the Atlantic from Maine's rocky shoreline might add to the enjoyment.

I have been to the Lobster Shack many times and not just as a one-time tourist, I used to live in the Portland, Maine area and my family visited this place about 5-6 times a season. The Lobster Shack makes a classic Maine Lobster Roll and has an unparalleled view from is picnic area, but the recipe described falls short of the mark on accuracy. First, the roll itself is a Nissan Hot Dog Roll (New England Style which is butter and grilled. The lobster meat is unadulterated as described with just a dollop of mayonnaise but it also has Paprika sprinkled on the top of the mayo and lobster meat and is finished off with a bread and butter pickle.

Pure and simple...the way it's supposed to be. No frou-frou add-ins. This is the real deal.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with the reviewer who gave this one star. This is a lobster roll how it should be, plain and simple. The succulent, sweet, fresh Maine lobster meat is the star here. To over embellish it with ingredients and spices would be a travesty. The fresh lobster will hold its own with just a little dab of mayo to bind it together, and perhaps a squeeze of lemon. Sometimes, as in this case, simplicity reigns.
