This is a great, traditional recipe. Would do it again and again!

I still remember my Grandma making this icing when I was a little girl in the early 50's. I used to make it when my daughter was a little girl..in the 70's. I tried this recipe for topping a moist white cake and it was perfection. This is a simple and good recipe for this icing. The beautiful peaks and glistening sheen is part of what makes it special...and gorgeous. This is an icing that was used before people had more money to spend on more costly icings...so it is 'coming around' again. Makes anything lovely and is delicious. Oh, and I've used this more than once to make
a DollCake. You can make her a princess in five minutes..all little girls love them.

I did not like this frosting at all. First of all it should have been called the 15 minute frosting. It also had a funny taste and the texture was soupy. I didn't like the shiny sheen the frosting had. I probably did it wrong but i followed the recipe exactly. I will not try this recipe again.

Worked perfectly both as a vanilla but also as a coconut frosting.

I wished I would have seen this before I made Paula Deans coconut cake because the previous person who gave a review was so right. Her 7 minute frosing was terrible. Running and soupie. What a disappointment. BUT THIS ONE WAS RIGHT ON THE MONEY. Thanks again for sharing this recipe with us.

Over Christmas I did Jaime's Coconut cake with seven minute frosting(by Paula Dean. The cake was easy to do...but her seven minute frosting was a runny, soupy nightmare! Moving ahead to my little guy's bday party (today, he requested the same thing. So, I thought to try this frosting. It WORKED, and was super easy to do with much less fuss than PD's. I give this 5 full stars and thumbs up all the way...even had friends asking me for the the recipe. Thanks!

After ten minutes, still no peaks. And it tastes like sweet egg whites, not frosting. Yuck.

It was just like the frosting my grandmother used to make! I spent hours looking for a recipe that sounded like the one I remember my grandmother making. This was right on the money and was much easier than I expected. Thank you

Me and my friend Jackelyn made this in only 15 min. It had to set for longer than we expected (but I think that was because we did not let it set and were impatient.
All and all, a great recipe! ;~D
