A great recipe and very easy for a first timer. I modified the recipe a little, using dark brown sugar and adding nutmeg and a bit more of the other spices into the mix. I let it stew for the better part of the day on low heat and it came out perfect. Once done and cooled and the hubby tasted it, he just wanted to keep the spoon and keep 'tasting' it.

I made this recipe for the first time, I was looking for something to be able to can and put in baskets for my friends for Christmas along with homemade bread.
The first batch cooked up so well it was easy and turned out great, and canned like a dream.
The next batch I doubled, instead of double apples I used 3 lbs of apples and 3 lbs of pears
and added nutmeg and a pinch of cloves. Everyone that received a Jar of this. Has called and offered to pay me to make them more. Our Parish Priest said " that is the best stuff I have ever eaten". I want to thank food network for the recipe, and for allowing me to create
Shirl's Allspiced fruit compote. Thank you a very bit fan. shirl

I was looking for some jams to make for Christmas gifts. I made this today and,WOW, it is wonderful ! The allspice adds a special touch and I plan to double the recipe tomorrow so I can process 10 jars for gifts.

I have never made apple butter before, but after going apple picking I needed something to do with all the apples. This recipe was so easy and soooooooo delicious, I made a few batches for family and friends. Everyone loved it and it was gone in a flash.
