I followed other reviewers' suggestions and made my pie with Honeycrisp apples. When I brought the pie to my boyfriend's grandfather's birthday (a man with, literally, everything he could want, he ate a slice quietly, seeming to enjoy it. As people are packing up the leftovers, he made a simple statement: "The pie stays." I took it as high praise :

    Seriously, a fantastic pie.

If you don't like this apple pie.....it's quite simple, you just don't like apple pie! If you do like it, and who wouldn't? you like the best of the best! I do quite a bit of baking and there's nothing like a "butter" pie crust, hands down.

I have made this pie several times for friends and family and each time was met with raving reviews. Even my friend who typically does not care for dessert was impressed. not sure what went wrong for the other reviewers but I had great success. I baked my pie in a 11" tart pan and made the top crust into a lattice.

I thought overall this pie was too tart, with the vinigar in the crust amplfying it.

I have never baked before and was very intimidated. It turned out really nice and my only complaint is that I need more experience. Great recipe for the first timer.
