Had a late night craving for something sweet. It had been a long time since I made sugar cookies. I found this recipe when I googled Chewy sugar cookies. THE BEST EVER!!!! I didn't have buttermilk so I used evaporated milk and vinegar and instead of all purpose flour I used cake flour. My husband woke up in the middle of the night an tried one. He loved them. They taste better after the dough is chilled over night. It rolls better also. They don't spread at all really so you can press them to what ever size you want. I turned the oven down to 325 and cooked them for 15 min til the edges were just browned. Even soft the next day with a nice crunch on the edges

I cannot see how anyone can mess this recipe up! It's snowing here in VA so I was looking for a super easy cookie recipe to make with my 5yr old to make the time inside go by quicker. So glad I found this recipe. I made my own buttermilk (vinegar and 2%milk and I followed another suggestion and used 1/2 tsp of baking soda. Super easy, used ingredients found in my pantry! We love chewy cookies so this was perfect!

Excellent*********. Used 3 T. of (1/2 & 1/2 + 1/4 t. vinegar instead of butter milk. Used almond extract instead of vanilla. Used 3/4 teas. baking soda, 3/4 teas. baking powder. Half butter half margarine, straight from frig. Added 1 teas. salt. Chilled dough little while-much easier to work with. Also chilled cookie sheets. Came out perfect. Exactly 4 doz. when using an iced tea spoon to measure. 10 min. exactly at 375. Am going to try different toppings and flavors. This is a great basic receipe to work with.

Totally easy and stress-free to make - my 16 mo. old helped me to decorate them! 30 min. later I took them to a holiday party and they were gone in no time. People kept telling me they were delicious. I like to bake but I don't like complicated recipes, so this was perfect because cookies were tasty and pretty.

I know everyone loved it, so I must have done something wrong, right? Wrong. I tried it even though salt was obviously missing. I read the review that said it's because we were using unsalted butter. No self respecting baker bakes with anything BUT unsalted butter, in fact, we don't BUY salted butter, ever. Flat. Tasted like nothing but flour. If you must try this, either do the unspeakable and use salted butter, or at least at 3/4 teaspoon of salt. I only tried these as a change of pace for my roll-out Christmas sugar cookie recipie. My lesson learned here, is never mess with your Christmas recipies, ever.

I am so glad I chose this sugar cookie recipe! Two reasons: 1. I don't consider myself a "baker", but I enjoy doing it and I'm often disappointed in the results. 2. I really, really, really prefer chewy sugar cookies. This recipe was perfect; it was easy for someone like me to follow and not mess up and they were chewy and perfect!
