i've made this cake 4 or 5 times - always for a special occasion - it has consistantly been a big hit. i use a cream cheese icing and people rave. i was so surprised by the reviews here, that before i wrote this review, i double checked with my husband just to make sure i wasn't crazy. his grandmother made red velvet cake every christmas and he says this recipe tastes just as good as his grandmothers.

WOW. I am shocked to read all of the negative reviews for this cake. I followed the recipe to a T and my cake turned out moist (not dry in the least, fluffy, and absolutely delicious. The frosting was great too. My family absolutely loved it. I took the leftovers to work and my co-workers raved about it too. I actually got requests to make it again. This was one of my favorite cakes and I will definitely be making it again.

Tried this recipe a year ago and found the cake to be extremely dry. Would not make it again.

i really didn't like this cake...it didn't taste like a regular red velvet cake. the white frosting, as opposed to the usual cream cheese frosting, was a let down. i wouldn't make it again

This cake was pretty dry and bland as opposed to "Fabulous". I made it for my friend's birthday and was pretty dissapointed. The color looks way too pink and the taste was nothing special. Pretty dry and flavorless.

I have tried at least 10 different recipes for red velvet cake over the past 2 years and this is definitely the best. Very Good!!

This recipe is just like our mom used to make. The buttermilk makes the cake fluffy. The whole family is enjoying a childhood favorite once again and my 6 year old son has learned how to bake it as well. This is the first cake I ever made from scratch and it takes a little more time. but is well worth the effort. I also use the icing recipe on other cakes as well.
