Please ignore my 3 star rating I haven't tried it yet.
I haven't made this cake yet, so I was looking at the reviews, but about half the people said it was gross and the other half thought it was perfect. Same with Paula Deen 's recipe. I wouldn't trust it.

The cake was FABULOUS but the frosting was very sweet and I couldn't swallow a bite of the frosting.

I was very impressed with the moistness this cake had. I followed the directions exactly and it came out as it should have. My family has now dubbed me "the new Saralee".

This cake is so moist and unbelievably easy to make. It was moist and tasty. I added a little extra cocoa because I love chocolate. Exceptional! If it does not come out right, you are not following the recipe or steps.

i love the density and flavor of this cake, however, i use an extra scoop of coca to add more flavor and then use a cream cheese frosting. I've had so many compliments.

I made this cake for the first time and really liked the consistency. It was dense and smooth like a quick bread. .I'm assuming that is due to the shortening and the cake flour. The flavor was good but not noteworthy. I am going to make this cake again but replace the food coloring with some other liquid to perhaps enhance the flavor. I was unimpressed with the red color and the food coloring is too pricey to not add flavor.

I have never had Red Velvet Cake before and figured this would be a GREAT valentine's treat for my wife and myself. Made the cake and liked the taste of this recipe, however, the cake came out dry. I am not sure why though. The only thing i did NOT do that i normally do with a homemade cake is I did NOT sift the cake flour. Anyway.... good flavor, a little dry.
