Great recipe, But very time consuming... I also had a very hard time getting all the house pieces to stick together..but overall very fun and spirited!

This is a GREAT gingerbread house recipe and I didn't make any changes to it. I found it to be much easier on my mixer than another recipe I've been using for years and it's very fragrant. I myself would probably not use as much clove since the smell is a bit too overpowering for me. I will definitely use this from here on!

Is it 16 oz of butter or 2 sticks?????? I used 2, then read 16 oz, so I added 2 more. THEN I found the reviews that stated it works best with 2. Now I'll have 3 little girls with sad faces because of a screwed-up recipe!!!!!

I can't believe the bad reviews this recipe has gotten. This recipe is fabulous! I baked them to spec and they turned out better and much tastier than anything you could ever purchase in a store. I saw some comments about them not being hard enough, but I found this not to be a problem, and when we dove into them after construction WOW what flavor! We make gingerbread houses every year, and I must say that this one is a keeper, I just wish I had purchased more decorations for the outside!!!

I stayed up allll night creating gingerbread for a house and many cute little gingerbread men, women, soldiers, and reindeer. (with a cute lil' santa Boy, i wish I would had THIS recipe when I did it, cause the one I followed was really hard to read and I almost broke my electric hand mixer! Im gonna decorate the house, and some of the cookies for everyone to decorate at christmas. The way the walls of the house turned out, perfect! gorgeous recipe!

What a great memory for my brothers and myself.
Gale's recipe reminded us of the multitude of gingerbread houses our mother made when we were children.

One suggestion I might add for those decorating their own gingerbread house. The bright colored Necco Wafers used as shingles for the roof made for a more eye catching decor for the children ( big a little children. What child wouldn't love to see more and more candy! :-

This recipe doesn't have the correct amount of butter listed. I used the 16oz. and my batter was too sticky to use. I noticed that others noted this as well but used only 2 sticks of butter and theirs worked. There are no sticks of butter in western Canada unless you want to pay double the price. Please make sure that the measure is correct the next time you post a recipe.
