My 10 year old nephew and I made these a few days ago. They were wonderful! We substituted the orange extract with rootbeer flavored extract. Because the rootbeer extract is so dark we weren't able to color the sugar, but that didn't matter! We had some left over sugar mixture, so we made it into hard candies as well (just pour the leftovers into a hard candy/chocolate candy mold; it sets up in minutes. Very easy!

I want to try these and have a question. Instead of using a flavoring extract can you use an oil flavoring instead? The flavors with the oils are so much more intense.

This one is for wellasylvia_8331630. In this recipe it does state that you use orange extract for flavoring. So there is some flavor to it. Maybe it was added to the recipe after your post? Not really sure. Hope this helps you out. No I haven't made these myself but would really love to. My 2 step daughters would really get a kick out of these

I haven't made these, but would like to. My question is:
How can they 'taste delicious' if there's no Flavoring added.
It was just water, sugar, corn syrup and food coloring.
If someone used flavoring... what did you use?
BTW, I'd love to see Gale Gand again on the Food Network... even if it's just at holidays or a Special.

These were a little more difficult than I anticipated and the clean-up was more work than I would have liked. In the end, they turned out looking pretty cool and they taste great!

THIS RECIPE WAS GOOD BUT WE HAD SOME TROUBLE MAKING THEM... WE HAD TROUBLE WITH HEATING THE MIX. IT GOT REALLY HOT AND IT WAS HARD PUTTING IT IN THE ICE BATH. IT BEGAN TO HARDEN IN THE ICE BATH, AND SOON SET SO IT WAS HARD TO POUR THE MIX ON THE STICKS. ANOTHER THING THAT WE HAD TROUBLE WITH WAS THE FOOD COLORING. WE DIDNT KNOW WHAT COLOR TO PUT IN EACH MIX BECAUSE THE RECIPE WAS VERY CONFUSING. BUT OVERALL THE LOLLIPOPS TURNED OUT GREAT, AND LOOKED GREAT, AND TASTED AMAZING. BY THE WAY I AM EATING ONE AT THE MOMENT WITH MY AUNT.
