Only made the shortcakes. My family loves them and this is the best shortcake recipe I have tried. Didn't use the white pepper though. These are the perfect texture for shortcakes and very easy to make. I do not use a stand mixer for mixing the shortcake dough. Instead I simply mix it with a fork or wood spoon. The one time I used a stand mixer they came out tough.

Christmas Holidays 2009...I am reviewing the internet for dessert recipes. This strawberry one appears, I read it and see that no one else has evaluated nor (probably made/eaten this item.
I have been fortunate to eat sweets made by Gale Gand in restaurants, hotels and her own store while visiting the east coast.
If this "eval" helps anyone...try the recipe's suggestion...spices with sweet...pepper with fruit (strawberries. My grandma made something similar and my mouth liked it, especially the memories attached.
Enjoy!
