I just got through watching both this show and the one on the Red Velvet Cake and I can't believe these judges. I know Bobby Flay is a great chef and all that but if you know anything about southern cooking (both my parents are from the South, you know that what he made is a Chocolate Cake not a German Chocolate Cake or a Red Velvet Cake. I think after seeing both shows Bobby was embarassed that he won. He knows he didn't make true versions of either cake. I'm sure they both tasted great, but neither cake is a true version.

..Aren't these judges suposed to be somewhat knowledgeable?...One of the judges even said "This is like the cake my mother made"...Bobby's cake looked more like a devils food cake with ganache...Bobby also won the next throw-down with guess what?...His version of a Red velvet cake...I thought Alyyah's cake was truer to a German's chocolate cake...it even looked better than Bobby's version... Bobby used three different kinds of milk?...What was up with the cream on the side?...Goats milk?...This reminds me of when Bobby won the mac-n-cheese throw-down with a casserole...I would love to see him take on another southern staple- The Sweet Potatoe Pie...He'd probably smoke the sweet potatoe and drizzle some spicy, caramel sauce on it...Hmmm, that dosen't sound too bad

I cant believe some of the comments listed here! Bobby Flay is an accomplished chef and I am a big fan, but his recipes aren't always the easiest to make (who wants to search for goats milk you'll use once?. German chocolate cake is one of those recipes that needs little variation. Aliyyah Baylors cake is delicious and easy to make. It varies little from the recipe on the box of Bakers German chocolate. The only difference is the brown sugar and cutting the white sugar by a 1/2 cup as well as the 1/4 tsp of baking powder (I don't notice a difference with or without it. The chocolate side frosting looked like a basic ganache and this is what I use: 4 oz semisweet chocolate, 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1 tsp vanilla. Melt chocolate and cream together on low heat until even, add vanilla, chill 15 minutes, frost. There you go, mystery solved!!! I understand everyone wanting Bobby recipes but even chefs don't always get it right. Remember the jambalaya throwdown. Stieffels recipe is the gold standard for jambalaya. I wouldn't eats Bobby's jambalaya on a bet!

This is a fabulous recipe. The cake was moist and the filling was awesome. It took a little time to complete but so worth the effort.

Thank you for sharing such a great recipe.

I cannot believe the comments I am reading. I always looks for the competitor's recipe. If they are good enough for Bobby Flay to throwdown with, then they are good enough to have their recipe posted. If you want Bobby's recipes go to his website. It's not that difficult. Quit your whining and get a life! I can't wait to try her recipe. It is a true German Chocolate Cake.

I rated this a one star because she did not give the complete recipe-she left out her "secret" icing, which is an integral part of the cake. Really stupid.
