i made it once and it did not roll at all. then i tried again and made the batter as cupcakes and used the caremel for buttercream frosting and as a drizzle. the cake was awesome!

The flavors and textures are great but I had the same problem when it came to rolling it up :(

I gave this a try not knowing what to expect, since I'd never made a cake roll before. It did stick a bit when I rolled it, but the powdered sugar hid those spots. All in all it was a huge hit over the holidays and I will definitely be making it again.

After reading the reviews about how the cake crubmled when rolling it up, this looked delicious and I really wanted to give it a shot. Unfortunately, I had the same issue. It's now a jumbled mess on a plate. The filling tastes awesome and the cake is just ok. Would NOT attempt to make this again without some adjustments to the cake recipe.

Followed recipe exactly. Felt like cake was not going to hold the roll. Cake cracked couldn't serve without covering cake, I whipped some Dutch processed cocoa, confectioners sugar & heavy cream to "frost". Was making for a friend's birthday so it had to look nice. Cake was very tasty, lots of compliments. I will try recipe again as German Chocolate cake is popular w/ family & friends.

This cake is very good, but it completely crumbles when you try to roll it. If you want something presentable, this probably isn't your cake.

I tried this recipe for a superbowl party. Unfortunately, I didn't have the right size pan...mine was smaller so the cake was thicker and completely fell apart when I tried to roll it. The good news is that it was a family party (no pressure so I just formed it into a glob, sprinkled it with confectioners sugar and called it German Chocolate Cow Pie. Despite it's appearance, everyone loved it and we all had a good laugh. This is a delicious recipe, and I'm trying it again for a birthday party tomorrow...with the right pan.

I made this for Christmas...it was fantastic! I did make a chocolate frosting for it and cut it into a 'log' shape to look like a branch. I made some merangue 'mushrooms' and then lightly dusted it with a little confecctioners sugar after I put a sprig of holly on the tray. You have to roll the cake up while it is pretty warm...if you wait too long it will break....but if you follow the directions and roll it up warm and let it cool it works great.

I tried to follow the advice on rolling it up from these reviews, but mine still cracked apart and ended up pretty ugly. But it tasted fantastic! Next time, I will probably just cut the cake into pieces and stack them, like a layer cake...
