I just made this recipe for my family and we were greatly disappointed. While my batter was not as runny as others seem to have been it just had no flavor. My husband said the only reason he ate any was because of the powdered sugar and whip cream. I would not reccomend this recipe.

I just didn't like the final outcome. It didn't taste that great. That batter was easy to make and I didn't think it was too wet once I used the mixer to combine eggs and apples. The batter puffed and fried up nicely, but the inside was not tasty and the outside was greasy. And the oil was at the right temperature. Oh well.

I just stumbled upon this recipe as i was searching for a dessert on the website. I never tried anything like this recipe so i decided to take a chance since i have most of the ingredients at home. I agree with other people in how the batter was too runny and i felt that after frying the balls, they were too dense and should have meant to be light inside like a doughnut. I am sure the recipe can be changed to a specific liking easily. But overall trying this for the first time, it wasn't that bad especially when i just sprinkled cinnamon and powdered sugar over it. didn't have any whipped cream :(.

I was a little leery of making these for the 1st time for Father's Day for my husband after reading all of the negative reviews. When I mentioned the reviews to my husband he said that all of the other 'Giada' recipes that I've made have been fabulous so try this one, as Giada wrote it...it'll be great. And...it was! It was simple to make and heavenly to devour. The cinnamon whipped cream was THE perfect accompaniment. Thank you Giada for yet again another fabulous recipe.

First and foremost the mixture is far too liquid to be fried. If the name of the recipe didn't mentioned it has an apple, I wouldn't even know there was apple in this recipe. And this recipe seriously lacks sweetness and flavour.
Overall absolutely tasteless and waste of ingredients!

It was very easy to make, except for the runny batter and it was greasy. I think i should have used 1/2 stick of butter and less water.

I watched Giada make these Zeppoles on her show and her batter looked a lot different from mine. I ended up making more of a mediocre funnel cake that left my friend and I with blank expressions. Seems other users have been having runny batter problems too. I have a feeling that the ingredient proportions for this recipe aren't correct. 1/2 cup of water makes the batter thin (the apple contains a lot of liquid too if you don't drain it after shredding. 1/4 cup sugar doesn't give the zeppole enough sweetness. I haven't given this recipe a second try, but one might consider reserving the apple juice and using that as a sub for water for better apple flavor. I'm willing to bet you can work with less butter for a healthier dessert.

I had to alter the recipe a little...I added a little bit of vanilla and had to add a little more flour because dough was really really runny at first. I also set them on paper towels for just a few seconds and then dredged in cinnamon and sugar! Made my house smell like a donut shop!!!
