This was delicious as sooo simple, everyone loved it. I agree with most below obviously you wouldn't use just a plain sauce from some can. No one even cooks pasta with that stuff anymore. Now you get prego or Newmans when you feel lazy and don't want to make your own. BUT YUCK anyone knows to throw herbs in to flavor it up. Don't bag on Giada, there have been many recipes that aren't exactly how the episode was shown, email foodnetwork don't bag on the recipe. If you don't like this recipe then you should just give up on authentic Italian food lol Thanks Giada!!!

I took everyone's advice and decreased the amount of cheese. i used one regular sized container of ricotta, and a jar and a half of newman's sockarooni sauce. i put about a 3rd of the mozerella into the sauce mixture and put the rest on top. i passed on the dabs of butter...figured i didnt need any extra fat. turned out good! not amazing, but i've made it more than once. one time i made the meatballs, one time i used frozen.

OH man, if you use straight tomato sauce you will be VERY disappointed. I started to think about the recipe after I put it in the oven (because with just plain tomato sauce as a base, seems like it'd taste bad unless you like to eat just plain tomato sauce with no seasonings. So i came to check the reviews and comments....alas, i should have used marinara sauce or spaghetti sauce. I am sure if i was watching this episode Giada would have said use your favorite sauce, but i wasn't watching it. Giada always has great recipes. So I have attempted to rescue the dinner. It had been in the oven for 10 mins. I pulled it out, took off the cheese topping section by section, and pour the noodles, sauce, and meatballs back into the large bowl and dumped, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, basil, a little rosemary and salt and pepper in-it tasted ok, much better than plain tomato sauce. I just hope the finished product is good enough to not be wasted.

This recipe was the most bland thing I have ever eaten in my life. This is the first recipe I have used of Giadas, and will be the last.

I must admit, I only made the meatballs. I really enjoyed them. I was having a little trouble moisture/texture in my own meatballs. My Abruzzi heritage "forces" me to put a little pork or pork & veal in with any ground beef. Just remember to change to oil if you make a lot.
I would have tried the whole dish but didn't have ricotta. Instead I used my own noodles and sauce. Very good.
Lastly, I am glad I forgot to read the reviews this time. It has always amazed me that people can't use a little common sense when reading a recipe. That talent works on this or any food site or book.
Thanks, Giada!

This recipe is simple and very delicious. It's a go to when I'm having company and need something to please everyone. I use my own sauce and make these tiny bite-sized meatballs. Everyone loves it!

My family and friends love this, very simple to make. But clarification should be made on the tomato sauce, for those who are new to cooking, the recipe means use or favorite spaghetti sauce recipe . Do not grill Giada over this, The editors whom place the recipe on the site should be complained to. I rate this a (5, because I used my own home made spaghetti sauce recipe . Thank you

I just made this and it's great for company or just a great "go-to" comfort food dish with plenty of leftovers for lunches the next day! It's very easy. I took a few short-cuts, I used frozen Italian meatballs from Trader Joe's and a bottled sauce from Trader Joe's as well. Very good. Those who insulted Giada or just came on here to complain need to get a life and really learn how to cook. This is a great dish, Giada never fails to impress.

I made this for a dinner party and everyone had seconds asked for the recipie before they left!! As far as other reviewer's comments such as tomato sauce being bland, obviously use a sauce you like to avoid that situation; also if you can't tell by reading the recipie that 1 pound of beef and 1 pound of ziti is a lot of food, then its your own fault for not liking the flavor of the sauce you picked or throwing out extra because you thought it was too much. With a little common sense, this is an excellent recipe.

This recipe is outstanding. I made it for the first time tonight, and my husband swears that this is the best thing I have ever made! I used fresh basil in this dish instead of parsley which worked very well. I used fresh basil to season the meatballs and also added it to the sauce. For the tomato sauce I used Bertolli's "Tomato & Basil". Towards the end of the baking time my cheese wasn't quite as golden and bubbly as I'd hoped (probably an issue with my oven, so I put it under the broiler for a short time to achieve the desired effect. The result was an incredible dish that I would be proud to serve to anyone! Definitely give this a try.
