I read an earlier comment complaining about the simpleness of her salad dressing or recipes and I feel that I need to defend Giada (both comments were from Seattle, WA. I love her recipes because they're simple and easy! Stop watching her show if you don't like her style! And don't leave a bad rating just because it's not YOUR style and taste.

I can't speak to the crostini, but I make this salad all of the time. Since my garden's in full swing I usually have all of the herbs on hand- and to those complaining about the dressing - you don't need to dress it up because the fresh herbs are what punch up the flavor in this salad. I've made this with fennel and it's good, but I don't always have that in my fridge, I do always have celery, it's a perfect substitution, it still has that great crunch. This is the best kind of recipe, quick AND delicious!

In Giada's recipe for chopped shrimp salad she makes almost the same dressing but adds agave nectar which you can find at a Whole Foods type store--not too pricey and I use it for this type dressing a lot. I agree that the crostini would be a little better if added to warm toasts or cooked in but them I used to eat sticks of butter when I was a kid so I can't be trusted on butter--melted or not. Had to laugh about Giada talking with her mouth full. When you are as spontaneous as she is and laughing and talking with good friends and family it probably just happens.

I usually ignore the comments that do not relate to rating the recipe, BUT today I will make an exception. I can't understand what there is to complain about...these recipes are FREE. If you don't like her, don't watch her. She talks while chewing???? OMG grow up--who cares????? The salad was a nice change, something light as it was meant to be. It was meant to compliment the hearty pasta dish. Also thank you Giada for recipes using fennel.

what a great salad! it is easy and easy to make, and it goes great with the rest of the meal she made on this episode. WOW you gals in Seattle need to get out a little more! Maybe try eating at a true Italian place and you will understand what Italian food is all about, simple, rustic, and full of flavor. And the Olive Garden doesn't count!!!!

I love this salad! the crostini was delicious, but i do agree that it should be baked with the bread first, that way the butter is melted on top. Also the dressing is a little bit bland, but I've found that if you add just a tad of vinegar it brightens up the dressing fabulously!

Very disappointing recipe. The dressing is lemon and olive oil. Yep that's it. I can't stand it when I get a salad that doesn't have a flavorful dressing. At least add some nuts or cheese for a bit more richness. The crostini with butter is ridiculous. It would have been fabulous if the crostini had been put in the oven WITH the butter on it. If I was this band I would have left hungry. Poor guys. Didn't look like there was much food there.

I'm a big fan of Giada, but this was a lame recipe.

This salad is refreshing, new, simple and different. Hey Mel, why don't you tell us all what "exciting" salads you make. Interesting how you dislike Giada so much but you watch her show...
