I have made the meatballs only of this dish and can't wait to make the sauce. The meatballs are some of the best our family has ever tasted. I used one whole shallot grated since our family isn't big on onions. I'd recommend chopping the parmesan once grated or grate it finely so it will melt into the meatball. But honestly, the flavor is insanely delicious and cutting it open and seeing oozing cheese, well, what's better than that? You can make these ahead of time and cook when you need 'em.

Overall good. The most significant problem I had was with the thickness of the sauce. It seemed pretty thick when I started and got far too thick at the end. As such, I returned some water too it. I thought the meatballs were good, but the kids thought they were too spicy. Therefore, I recommend cutting the red pepper in half if you are cooking for anyone under 12. Overall, the family gave it an average rating of 3.67 stars (somewhere between "liked" and "really liked."

I used regular spaghetti instead of bucatini and mozzarella instead of smoked. Both substitutions turned out great. However, I think I will make them with the smoked cheese next time. Perfect amount of spicyness.

Delicious! Served with homemade spaghetti pasta (recipe from allrecipes Fresh Semolina and Egg Pasta.
Couldn't find ground veal, so I used pork instead (the specialty meat store I went to said it would be hard to find, and suggested the pork as a substitute. I also couldn't find smoked mozarella (specialty store also said they hadn't heard of it, I tried 6 stores for the cheese and veal, so I used a smoked chedder, but didn't much care for the cheese, I'll probably use regular mozarella next time or just omit it, because you can taste the grated cheese in them anyways.
The sauce was amazing! The best homemade sauce I've made by far! Oh ya, and I accidently grabbed whole tomatoes at the store instead of crushed, so I ended up using Diced tomatoes I had on hand, and added the whole tomatoes without the juice, and I think the chunks of tomatoe really made it too!

This was very good. My husband is an Italian "traditionalist" and likes things the way his Nona made them. He said these were the best meatballs he ever had. We like a lot of sauce so we only used 8 ounces of pasta and it was perfect.

I tried this recipe tonight (well actually just the meatballs and they were fantastic! I had to make some substitutions in the ingredients bc I didn't have all of the things that were called for- but they were still delectable! I cannot wait to cook (and eat them again!

Adding 5 more stars to the 5! Hands down the best meatball recipe ever! I used regular mozzarella instead of the smoked. Just a personal preference. FANTASTIC!!
