Ingredients
  • 2 skinless and boneless chicken breasts, butterflied and then cut in half
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • All-purpose flour, for dredging
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 1/4 cup brined capers, rinsed
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley, chopped
Directions
Watch how to make this recipe.

Season chicken with salt and pepper. Dredge chicken in flour and shake off excess.

In a large skillet over medium high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 3 tablespoons olive oil. When butter and oil start to sizzle, add 2 pieces of chicken and cook for 3 minutes. When chicken is browned, flip and cook other side for 3 minutes. Remove and transfer to plate. Melt 2 more tablespoons butter and add another 2 tablespoons olive oil. When butter and oil start to sizzle, add the other 2 pieces of chicken and brown both sides in same manner. Remove pan from heat and add chicken to the plate.

Into the pan add the lemon juice, stock and capers. Return to stove and bring to boil, scraping up brown bits from the pan for extra flavor. Check for seasoning. Return all the chicken to the pan and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove chicken to platter. Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter to sauce and whisk vigorously. Pour sauce over chicken and garnish with parsley.

As an addendum, my wife asked me to make orzo with this dish. Instead of serving it on the side, make it al dente and in advance. Then, while the sauce is cooking, add the orzo and let it reheat as it takes in the sauce itself. It was delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Excellent! I added 1 tsp chopped garlic and a 1/3 cup more lemon. We sopped the scruptious sauce up with crusty sourdough bread. Yummy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
5 stars for sure, it's simple n satisfying. I sub a dash of white wine if I don't have lemons and the wine goes perfect w capers item not reviewed by moderator and published
Delicious! I added a clove of minced garlic. It was out of this world! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made it with white wine vs chicken stock and it came out nice . Serviced with white rice and small green salad. Wondering what the calorie count would be per serving. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fast and delicious. Definitely will make again. Eating clean so no flour. Wondering how many carbs per serving. Definitely would recommend. Thanks Giada item not reviewed by moderator and published

Giada thank you for sharing this recipe. As you wrote on the ingredients EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL is important in bringing out the good flavor on this dish. I used Lidrivio and it was amazing
item not reviewed by moderator and published

Phenomenal flavors! Simple and quick! My new favorite! I wish I could give it more stars!
item not reviewed by moderator and published

Delicious!! Almost reminds me of chicken francese. Anyway, I double the sauce recipe and poured it over linguine pasta with a drizzle of olive oil! Because I double up the sauce, i added a little more lemon. And the capers weren't strong after it's been rinsed and cooked. I plan on making this dish in the future!! Wow, I made this tonight and my family and grandkids loved it! The only change I made was decreased the amount of lemon, I used the juice of just one and it was fine, the lemon flavor was still present. Delicious, my daughter said " ok, you can make this once a week!". Thanks Giada! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this tonight and it was delicious! The only thing I would change is to decrease the amount of capers just a bit.. The chicken and sauce rested on a bed of linguine and it was perfect! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I actually used concentrated lemon juice instead of fresh. Doubled it, but came out awesome. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Pretty good. Id cut lemon juice in half item not reviewed by moderator and published
So excited about how this turned out! This recipe is the first chicken piccata that I've ever had turn out! I made is exactly as the recipe calls for for a change! lol I usually like to add my own touch, but maybe that's why this dish has never worked out in the past! I love that she suggested cutting the chicken breast in half lengthwise, I might start doing that for now on for every recipe! They cook so much easier and more even. I will say that the sauce all by itself didn't really taste all that good, but when added to the chicken, it was awesome! I laid the chicken on a bed of angel hair pasta and spooned the sauce over both. My kids even liked it!! And that is nothing short of a miracle!!!! ;oD item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fantastic, quick, easy, inexpensive and delicious. Couldn't ask for more than that. Love all the lemon flavor. My husband loved it and he's a red meat and potatoes kind of guy. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I added artichoke hearts and mushrooms. Yummy item not reviewed by moderator and published
Perfection. I pour the sauce over thin spaghetti (it only serves two). item not reviewed by moderator and published
This easy recipe tastes like the chicken piccata in the most expensive Italian restaurants. After being very often disappointed in what I'm served in restaurant, I decided to try to make it myself. It was amazing! I did add some canned artichoke hearts since I'm constant looking for recipes for my favorite vegetable. This will be made over and over again. Thanks, Giada! item not reviewed by moderator and published
AMAZING, I'd recommend using slightly less than the amount of lemon juice instructed. I added asparagus & mushrooms before adding the lemon juice & stock, PERFECTION! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Totally delicious! A big hit with my dinner guests!

item not reviewed by moderator and published
Bomb bomb bomb... Just added sliced mushrooms, cut the lemon juice to 1/4 cup and put it over 100% whole wheat pasta. Gunna use this to make lots of variations. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It is simple. I love that you can make this in no time. I used 1 1/2 cup of home made chicken stock just because i did not have the one that is ready to use. I used 1/4 cup of lemon juice since it was too lemony and used chicken tenders instead since it was what i had. I also served it over fat noodles! item not reviewed by moderator and published

This is such a great recipe! It is a top five requested meal by my family. I've made this at least twenty times & follow the recipe exactly except to double the sauce.
I serve it with linguine, bruschetta and a green salad.
item not reviewed by moderator and published

Delicious & easy!! I doubled the chicken stock based on another reviewers notes - good call. It was a hit with the whole family - it will be a regular now! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very easy. So good!! I am going to reduce the lemon juice a little next time. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Delicious and easy. I love the lemony recipe, I can't have enough of them, thank you. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Great very easy recipe. I find all of Giada's recipes way to lemony for our family, so I cut her lemon juice quantities at least in half and add at end to keep down the acidic taste. Also added 1/4 to 1/2 c white wine. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Easy to to make, and a real crowd pleaser!!
Forgot to get chicken stock at the store, so used white wine to deglaze, plus the lemon juice, capers, and a little water. Reduced the mixture to taste and the right consistency before adding the butter - everyone loved it!
item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very good, easy week night dinner. I used white wine in place of the chicken stock. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is SO good and SO easy - you can do it blindfolded. I served it last night for dinner guests (and have made it often), and it was a big hit. I prep the chicken/flour, parsley, lemon juice, etc. in advance and have everything ready to go in little packets so it's even faster. I added more chicken stock - not knowing the recipe erred - it just needed a bit more. No worries! The guests took all the leftovers home with them - boo hoo.
item not reviewed by moderator and published
Huge hit with both my husband and teenage son. Made extra for leftovers, but everything gone!
item not reviewed by moderator and published
Amazing! made a few adjustments after reading review..just to personalize taste. added 1/2 lemon juice, 1/2 cup of white wine and 1 clove of garlic. The chicken was so tender it melted in your mouth. Served it to company and cannot wait to serve it again!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was so good. My hubby said, on a scale of 1 to 10, it was a 12. I put the chicken in the oven to keep it warm, not back in the sauce. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I serve this over a bed of parmesan pasta and got rave reviews item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love, love LOVE this recipe. There is a typo, the recipe should read 1 cup of chicken stock as Giada says in the video, not 1/2 as listed above. My grandma usually puts about a tablespoon of garlic and 1/2 cup of diced yellow onion in hers, giving it a little more flavor. (She also uses Taylor dry sherry in the sauce). I am a chicken piccata connoisseur, and I always ask for extra sauce and extra capers. Absolutely refreshing dish! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Easy, fast, & fantastic taste! I didn't have fresh lemons - so I used bottled lemon juice - still just great. Can't wait to make this for company. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Tasty! Excellent! Easy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
We all LOVE IT!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
A big hit with my Mom (a great cook) who said she has trouble getting Chicken Piccata just right. I used a bit less of the fat (Just one round of 2 Tbsp unsalted butter and 3 Tbsp of olive oil for 2 large breasts of chicken) and only 1 Tbsp salted butter at the end for the sauce. Delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Could I make this a few hours in advance of dinner? How should I reheat it? item not reviewed by moderator and published
I put a little less lemon and it was still very lemony. I liked it though. The sauce was nice and thick. I was wondering if this recipe has a lot of butter overall, but… i think it's ok. Really tasty! item not reviewed by moderator and published
The chicken itself came out great, but the sauce was far too lemony and I had to doctor it with more stock. This is after I reduced the lemon juice down to 1/4 cup and added it at the end, as others suggested. Next time, I'll add juice sparingly and taste test after each addition. I was able to rescue the sauce and ultimately, my dinner guests loved it. item not reviewed by moderator and published
little too much lemon, but otherwise a really good recipe item not reviewed by moderator and published
I would suggest adding the lemon juice last, to taste,... a little at a time, when making the sauce, otherwise it's just way too lemony for me. I tamed it down by adding some cream and adding more chicken broth...otherwise would be too strong of lemon flavor. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very quick and easy. The sauce is great! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Easy, tasty...what more could you want? item not reviewed by moderator and published
Too Sour. I modified it the second time and it was delish. Used only 1/4 cup lemon juice and added 1/2 cup white wine. Tasted well balanced after that. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This Chicken Piccata recipe was the BOMB.....wait did I just say that out loud? item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is one of the BEST chicken dishes I have ever made ! The entire Family just Loved it and that's not easy to do with one dish ! I have to double my sauce, Add a few more Capers and Fresh Parsley because I use more Chicken then she calls for. Still so DELCICIOUS and the lamon juice was perfect, I used 2 lemons and even some zest !! GREAT DISH item not reviewed by moderator and published

I made this last night for the first time, from Giada's "Everyday Italian." It was delicious, the perfect flavor, very moist, quick to make and easy! In fact, it was my first attempt at making Chicken Piccata and I'm calling it a huge success! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love this recipe, will do again item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was my first time making Chicken Picatta. The only reason I did not rate this 5 stars is because I thought the amount of lemon juice was way to much. I did add a small packet of Knorrs no sodium chicken bouillon, salt and more water to tone it down a bit, I just cooked the sauce a little longer to reduce it. This will be my go to recipe for Chicken Picatta. I served Creamy Parmesan Orzo and sauteed zucchini as my side dishes which paired very well with this entree. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this tonight for dinner and it was so good, plus it was easy. Instead of regular pasta I served it with fresh zucchini noodles that I made in my spiralizer. I just tossed them in the sauce for about a minute and they were ready and I didn't have carb overload like I would of with regular pasta or the extra gluten. item not reviewed by moderator and published
WOW! Great recipe. Just the right balance of flavors. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Love this recipe! Easy yet delicious. Guys? Want to impress your date/wife with a home-cooked meal? Try this one - she doesn't need to know how simple it is, but you will definitely score some major points! Follow the recipe as is. Add some roasted asparagus on the side (way better than sauteed), along with some Knorr's Pasta Sides - goes perfect with this dish. item not reviewed by moderator and published

This is me and my husbands #1 favorite recipe. We have been to many Italian restaurants, some very good ones, and even the chicken piccata dishes there can't touch this one. When I want to make my hubby something special, I surprise him with this dish. It is perfect and delicious. For an added veggie we like to saute some asparagus - and it goes great with the lemon butter sauce! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made this recipe and it's now my favorite. Hubby is not a fan of capers but he even loved it. Thank you for another great meal. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Surprised me. Tasted great! Made the recipe just as it is written and it came out great. I'm not a huge chicken breast lover, but the flavors tasted really great together. My boyfriend even called the dish "delicious." item not reviewed by moderator and published

This. Recipe. Is. Amazing. I haven't been that huge a fan of Chicken Piccata after eating a so-so version at Carraba's, but just had to give it a try after reading all these raves. I can't believe I made something that tasted that good and I can't believe how easy it was! Instant favorite, I'm sure I'll make it again and again. item not reviewed by moderator and published

I sometimes add a touch of white wine and always a couple of crushed garlic cloves. Fantastic meal. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have made chicken piccata before several times using wine but, this is the first time hubby said "It's delicious, it never tasted this good!" So, Giada thank you this is a keeper. I used a little more than 1/3 cup of lemon and I cup of chicken stock. I put the parsley in the sauce as it simmered. Then just it with the spaghetti. Loved it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This sauce is pretty good - 3.5 stars. I enjoy parsley in other dishes, but I thought here it overwhelmed the rest of the ingredients in the worst way. I will omit it next time. I saved the leftover sauce in a mason jar and poured some on fish the next couple of days - yum. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely delicious! I doubled the sauce. I think that this would be great on top of angel hair pasta that's been tossed in the sauce. item not reviewed by moderator and published
As with most of the other reviews, I found this recipe to be fantastic. Followed a lot of the other recommendations and used less lemon and added cornstarch. Came out perfectly. item not reviewed by moderator and published
