I made this salad for a BBQ and it was delicious, however I had to make a modification. The 1 orange and 1 grapefruit called for in this recipe is not nearly enough to serve 4 - 6 people as the recipe states. So I simply used 3 grapefruit and 3 oranges (my grapefruit was medium sized. And I used 1 1/2 bulbs of fennel. I doubled the dressing to accomodate the additional fruit in the salad. There were 4 of us, and we nearly finished the entire salad. But it was a very refreshing salad - perfect for a warm day.

This salad is light, delicious, and soooo easy to put together. I would recommend it for any time of the year, any meal, and any size grouping. It has the added bonus of being good for you.
I used olive oil instead of extra virgin olive oil for a neutral flavor in the oil.
Thank you. :-

That was really good. Followed the recipe except a little less fennel. Giada hit another one out of the park. Fresh, delicious and easy.

I made this recipe yesterday for company and everyone loved it. One problem I had though, was the measurements. The recipe calls for 1 orange and 1 grapefruit and 1 large fennel and it's supposed to serve 4-6. I used 3 grapefruit and 3 oranges and when I looked at it, there was no way it would be enough for my 5 guests. Since I didn't have any more fruit, I improvised and made a big salad bowl with springs greens and put the citrus salad, walnuts on top. Then tossed with the dressing. Very delicious. The combination of the grapefruit, orange, fennel and walnuts in the salad made it something special.

I thought this recipe looked great but it had too much fennel in it. I also thought it was a bit watery. Next time I will buy the pre-sectioned oranges and grapefruits (cutting them took longer than 5 minutes and I use will use less fennel and cut it up smaller. The dressing is delicious and I have enough left over that I'll put it on a piece of salmon tonight with dinner.

I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying this salad. Even here, in the midst of Winter, it's refreshing, light, and full of flavor. A nice change from the mundane salad. The key is definitely using the freshest ingredients as possible, since there are very few ingredients in the dish. Giada's new show and cookbook are a nice change from "Everyday Italian", though recipes from that show were equally delicious.

I am not a great vegetable salad fan. I love fruit and this salad is very good. The combination of the citrus, fennel, basil, and walnuts is great. I like that the dressing is made from the juice of the orange and grapefruit. I have made this salad twice. The second time I added raisins (because they the were sitting near by. A good addition. 5 stars.

I would never have thought to put this together. It was great. My five year old had two helpings. I can't help but wonder if those who hated it had not great citrus to start.

I love Giada's food. However, this recipe was awful! It just tasted horrible -- bitter, watery, runny, lacking in flavor. I would not recommend it to anyone and I will never make it again.
