I think this is a great recipe, I did make some minor alterations though. Instead of using crushed tomatoes I just used "Hunt's Tomato Sauce" in the can. I read some reviews saying that this lasagna was slightly dry, mine didn't come out dry at all, but then again I do not mix the bechamel with the tomato sauce. When I made this lasagna I had more layers than this recipe calls for because my casserole dish is kind of deep. In addition, I layer mine: Bechamel, Pasta, Ricotta and Spinach, Pasta, Meat, Tomato Sauce, Pasta, Mozzarella, Bechamel, and Mozzarella. I do not however top with parmesan or the extra butter.

I thought this was a very good lasagna.I do some things differently.I do half beef and half Italian sausage for my meat and I add a clove or two of pressed garlic. I do the same thing for my spaghetti. I also add more sauce than she say because it tends to be a little dry for my taste. I did make this ahead of time and had put it in the fridge. Since it was cold when I put it in the oven I did have to cook it a lot longer than thiry min.

I thought this was very good. I did season it slightly to my taste, but next time I'll go all out with additional seasoning. I've never made lasagna, and was hesitant to over-salt (I'm pregnant and in a wave of nausea so couldn't handle taste-testing but will definitely salt more liberally. I added oregano to the ricotta, and about triple the amount of tomato sauce to the bechamel sauce. We sprinkled crushed red pepper at the table, and I would love to taste that cooked into the sauce and ricotta. Next time I make that particular tomato sauce I will add basil and more garlic. I added three cloves and still would have enjoyed more.

I've made a lot of Giada's dishes and always love them. This one was good, too, but I will definitely do things a little differently next time. The biggest problem I and my husband had with it was that it was very dry. I think doubling or even tripling the amount of sauce in the recipe is a great idea, and I will add more tomato than Bechamel sauce next time. We ended up adding extra marinara sauce when eating it left over. Also, the ground beef was bland. Next time I'll saute it with garlic and onion. I also recommend adding some Italian spices to the ricotta cheese mixture. Maybe I'm ruining a pure Italian dish by making these modifications, but apparently I like a more americanized version. Still, it was really good and I'll make it again, but with some modifications.

This is an easy recipe with a twist that turned out delicious and looked great too! It is totally ridiculous to not taste food as one is preparing it. Don’t blame the chef, perhaps something was lost in translation --who knows. Perhaps some of you lack the know-how to alter a recipe as needed to taste. Terrible or yuck comments are of no value whatsoever. What a shame u spent time assembling this like a robot only to fail because you didn’t taste it or alter it if you did not like something. Maybe you better stick to frozen lasagna w a processed cheese slice on top. Are u really a so-called expert. Long ago I attended a huge dinner party whereby the hostess served small frozen lasagna dishes w 3 oz. salads because she ate like a bird and considered it a great feat to serve frozen lasagna to her guests – what a horror! Average sized men were reduced to knawing on bread and chips in the kitchen.

This was not awful, but not what you probably expect when you make a classic lasagna. I'm giving it 2 stars because I wouldn't make it again. I followed Giada's recipe precisely, and seasoned liberally with salt and pepper along the way. Ultimately, the bechamel sauce was too creamy, bland, and didn't impart enough zesty tomato flavor that most of us love about lasagna!

Please rate the recipe base on the original version and not your own. By the way, the Bechamel sauce here is from Mario Batali's and that one's got a 5 Stars rating. But people here saying the sauce is bland.??

It was good, but it needed something. The tomato sauce was a little bland, and actually reminded me a little of stouffer's, despite the good ingredients. I added some links of hot Italian sausage to the ground beef, but it tasted like it needed more. I did like it, but I'm going to keep searching for a better recipe.
