While the lemon added a very refreshing zing to this dish, that's about all the "wow!" it possessed. On the whole, the cheese spread was really bland and ended up tasting like fresh lemon in a paste. It wasn't bad, mind you, but the lemon seemed to very much dominate and wash out the flavors of the cheese and basil, leaving only their textures to experience.
If I make this again, I will follow one of the other Reviewer's advise and try adding garlic and red peppers to liven it up!

I like this recipe but I used chives with just a bit of lemon juice. Very light....

It didn't blow me away, but it also did NOT disappoint either. Will most likely do it again. I think the lemon was really a HUGE plus; it woke up the cheese!

I made this recipe for a girls martini night with a few of my friends. I ALWAYS read the review on any recipe I am interested in trying. This one had mixed reviews and the usual comment for Giada's recipes is "Bland" which I tend to agree with. I follwed the recipe exact except Iinstead of using plain Olive Oil I enfused some oil with garlic cloves, crushed red pepper and multi colored peppercorns. I used this (and had to use morethan the recipe called for to make it spreadable in the cheese AND I used it to brush on my whole wheat baguette before I grilled it. It got great reviews by everyone including my 8 year old daughter who tried it befor I met up with my girls. The lemon is the key. Will enjoy this recipe often.

I made this recipe and it was so easy. My guests devoured it. Now I make it for every party and bring to friends homes. I make in advance, refrigerate and just serve a portion that I need and save the rest for another day. We also put it on salad. Yummy!

I made this once for a friend and it was so delicious, we make it nearly every time we get together now. The dip is so light and refreshing. It is too easy to eat the whole baguette! I do not think it is bland at all like some of the other reviewers mentioned. I have a lemon and basil herb mix that I use instead of fresh basil because I hardly ever use fresh herbs before they go bad, and it adds a nice extra touch.. but even without it I thought it was great! I definitely recommend this recipe!

I thought that this was delicious. I was a little nervous to try it after reading some of the reviews, but i really thought it was great. I added a little extra lemon zest and some juice and it was wonderful.

This was a crowd pleaser-my friends all asked for the recipe. The lemon and basil together were great.

I've made this both with the regular and the reduced fat goat cheese sold at Trader Joe's. It's delicious either way. The lemon zest really livens up the flavor. Also, it's super quick--zest, chop, blend by hand, and you're done.
