I brought them to thanksgiving dinner just as a sweet little treat, and they were gone in seconds. Everyone wanted the recipe. These ones are worth making. And i used an easy double chocolate brownie mix that worked perfect, it made them easy.

This recipe would work better with brownies made from scratch because the brownie mix was a little hard. However, the icing was great.

These brownies were awesome just like Giada's recipe. Of course everyone's taste is different but I wanted reviews on taste, Not the next wanna be foodnetwork star's recipe's that were submitted. There were more people telling us their recipe's were better. A review should be from her brownie's.
In the LA area you can find the expresso powder (Medaglia D'Oro which I believe is what I saw on Giada's counter at Claro's Italian Market or any other Italian market and several grocery stores carry it.
Giada's brownies rock. couldn't imagine changing anything and I Thank You for
sharing this with us.

I made these for a chocolate dessert on Thanksgiving. They were a huge hit! The brownies were delicious, moist, dense, and loaded with chocolate. You can taste the espresso and it was a nice addition. I used "chocolate lovers" brownie mix by Ghiradelli which already had chunks of chocolate in it but I still added the semi-sweet chips. I would suggest using very hot water when making the icing. I used cold water from the tap to combine the espresso powder and it wouldn't blend. I am thinking that hot water with the espresso for the icing would have made a smoother, darker brown finish for the glaze. If you combine the hot water and espresso and then let it come to room temperature before adding the powdered sugar and butter, it may work better. You could see the tiny bits of espresso in my glaze. Even so, everyone loved it.

I made these last night for a work party and they were a huge hit! I followed the recipe on box for the brownies, not the one in the recipe, as suggested in other reviews. I also used instant espresso rather than espresso powder. I wasn't able to find it in any grocery store. These were super easy and super good!!

I couldn't find espresso powder, but substituted instant coffee.. seemed to do the trick. I really liked the icing, but next time I will make more; the recipe only made enough for a tiny layer (I really like icing. One more thing, it is a must to cut these things up into bit size portions, because they are quite rich.

No wonder Giada makes them into mini brownies-- these are super rich, but they're delicious in small portions. I used instant cappucino mix for the glaze and it was awesome. Great for chocolate lovers.
